Sergey Kovalev vs. Eleider Alvarez
Date & Time Saturday February 2, 2019, 8:30 PM (EST)

This fight is for the WBO Light Heavyweight Title and features Eleider Alvarez at 23-0 with 12 knockouts facing Sergey Kovalev at 32-3-1 and 28 knockouts to his credit. The event is held in Frisco, Texas and is a 12 round affair.

These two fighters squared off in August and Kovalev had the upper hand until Alvarez opened up and knocked Alvarez to the canvas various times in the late rounds and finally won it with a knockout. This was meaningful as Alvarez had only won twice by knockout in his last even fights before this. At 34- years of age, Alvarez is 6′” and has a 75.5-inch reach and has a tendency to be a free swinger and at times is sloppy in his preparation.

Kovalev has lost three of his previous five fights which makes one wonder how much gas is left in the tank. He is 35 years old and is also 6’0″ with a 72.5-inch reach. He is studious in his preparation and has the ability to pick his spots in the fight. Conditioning is a concern for the aging fighter and is fighting in Texas for the first time in his career.

This has the ability to go either way according to some but Kovalev appears to be slipping a bit so I look for Alvarez to be ready to keep his undefeated record intact.
