CFL Week Nine Top Teams

The 2022 CFL season is heating up. However, the arrival of August means the arrival of a new NFL and College Football season. Fans might flock to the NFL like they always do but the CFL is getting hot at the right time.

In this article we will look at the CFL Week nine top teams and their chances to win it all in the Grey Cup Finals.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Blue Bombers are by far the best team in the CFL as of early August 2022. They took down the Montreal Alouettes last night with a score of 35-20 improving their record to a perfect 9-0. The Blue Bombers are just the fifth team in CFL history to start off 9-0.

The Blue Bombers currently have +150 odds to win it all, which is the best in the league so far. Starting quarterback Zach Collaros has passed for over 2200 yards and has thrown 17 touchdowns which leads the league.

Winnipeg receiver Dalton Schoen leads the league in receiving touchdowns with seven. Overall the Blue Bombers have a perfect 9-0 record, placing them miles ahead of the second best team at 5-1.

BC Lions

At 5-1 the BC Lions have the best score differential in the league at +87. In their most recent game, against the Roughriders, quarterback Nathan Rourke lit up the opposing defense. Rourke threw for 336 yards and threw two touchdowns and then ran for one more.

The Lions went on to win that game 32-17. Nathan Rourke is second in the league in both passing yards and passing touchdowns. So far this season Rourke has thrown for over 1900 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Calgary Stampeders

At 4-2 the Calgary Stampeders sit behind the Blue Bombers and Lions in their same division. If they were in the East division they would be in first place. In the game against the Blue Bombers, the Stampeders offense was firing on all cylinders with running back Ka’Deem Carey putting up 124 yards and two touchdowns.

However the Calgary defense was no match for the Blue Bombers offense and Calgary lost the game. The Stampeders face the worst team in the league in their week nine matchup against the Ottawa Red-Blacks. So far this season veteran quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has passed for over 1500 yards and seven touchdowns.

These stats put him in the middle of the pack in the CFL quarterback standings, and the team as a CFL Week nine top teams.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

At 4-4 the Roughriders sit at second to last in the West division but they are on this list because of their defense. In every defensive statistic this year the leader is a Roughrider. Larry Dean leads the league in tackles. Pete Robertson leads the league in sacks with seven. Nick Marshall leads the league in interceptions with three.

The Saskatchewan defense has been great this season but somehow they have lost three games in a row. The Roughriders are here also because no other team has over four wins and the Roughriders are still in the running for a playoff spot despite their losing streak.
