The ACC tournament is underway in Greensboro, North Carolina, and the ACC host some of the best teams in the NCAA. Even though this is an off-year for the ACC only having three teams in the top 25 they still have many other teams that could make a great run during March Madness.
Which Teams have the best odds and who will be the ACC Champions?
ACC Tournament Prediction: Florida State
The Florida State Seminoles (+230) are the favorite to win the ACC tournament even though the Virginia Cavaliers finished out the regular season as ACC champions and earned the first seed in the tournament.
Team records do not define who is going to win the tournament especially this season where teams had to have adjusted schedules due to Covid-19. Florida State did not their regular how they expected to.
They were defeated by Notre Dame 83-73 on the road as seven-point favorites. They showed strength when beating non-conference teams Florida and Indiana. In the ACC The Seminoles had the best effective field goal rating for and against them.
Florida State allowed the lowest two-point percentage and allowed the highest free throw rate. Against the top six ACC teams, the Seminoles posted an average 4-3 record this year.
Florida State’s biggest competitor is the Virginia Cavaliers (+310) who are the No.1 seed in the tournament. They were the last school to be crowned national champions since the 2020 season was cut short due to Covid-19.
ACC Tournament Prediction: Virginia
The Cavaliers suffered a tough 21 point loss to the Florida Gators this season but are 4-2 against the top six ACC teams. Virginia hasn’t shown any skill outside the conference without any impressive non-conference wins.
ACC Tournament Prediction: North Carolina
North Carolina (+450) is the third on the list and they have had a similar season as the Cavaliers when it comes to non-conference games. The Tar Heels faced teams like #1 Iowa and #15 Texas and of course lost both.
The Tar Heels have reached the final six in their past 9 ACC tournaments. North Carolina is a turnover machine this year ranking 15th in turnover rate. They have done well defensively ranking 22nd in the NCAA in defensive efficiency.
Even though their defense is doing well they have found very little success against top-six ACC schools with a record of 1-4. The one win came against the frontrunner Florida State.
ACC Tournament Prediction: Georgia Tech
Last on this list is Georgia Tech (+1000) who is behind other teams on this list but there is a reason they have been picked as the dark horse. The Yellow Jackets finished off their season on a six-game win streak with one of those wins being against a top-six ACC team.
Georgia Tech ranks 4th in all of D-1 basketball in average experience which is 2.55 years/player. In their two games against Virginia, they stayed very close only losing both games by a combined ten points.
ACC Tournament Prediction: Who Will Win?
I would put my money on Virginia. They have one of the most put-together teams in the NCAA and are the defending champions. Virginia will probably face either Syracuse or NC State followed by Georgia Tech most likely. The Cavaliers are 4-1 against these teams this season.
