Location Seems Like the Key Saturday
The Duke Blue Devils (11-4) have looked good in their two ACC home games this season, beating Florida State 86-67 and Saturday’s opponent the Boston College Golden Eagles (8-7). The road on the other hand, has not been kind where. Duke has lost 81-70 at Wake Forest and most recently just got bombarded 84-60 against NC State on Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles are hoping to sneak one in while Duke is vulnerable, but the NCAAB basketball odds are stacked against Boston College, considering they’ve lost seven straight in the head-to-head series, five of those by double digits.
Great Time for Duke’s First Conference Road Win
35 seems to be the magic number, as it’s the margin of victory in Duke’s wins over FSU and Boston College, but also the margin of defeat against the Wolfpack and Demon Deacons. What a difference home and away makes but if the Blue Devils lose to B.C. it’s time for concern. Duke has won 20 of 22 previous meetings with Boston College during the ACC regular season.
Duke struggling on the road is not as unlikely as it sounds, considering they are a very young team. The Blue Devils’ leading scorer is freshman Kyle Filipowski (13.8 ppg), and their coach Jon Scheyer is in his first year as well taking over for the legendary Mike Krzyzewski.
Duke actually debuted an all-freshman starting five on December 10th against Maryland-Eastern Shore, but will youth get rattled considering B.C. is just 6-2 on their home floor?
Boston Needs to Get Red Hot Shooting
It’s hard to tell exactly how a game is going to play out when betting online, but one thing that doesn’t seem likely is Boston College getting a lot of second-chance points on Saturday. The Golden Eagles have nobody averaging more than seven rebounds/game and rank 185th in the country in rebound rate – Duke is 5th.
The freshman Filipowski is also a load for the Blue Devils at 7’0 tall, although the Golden Eagles have a presence of their own on the interior with 7-footer Quinten Post. Filipowski goes for 13.8/8.6 though, while Post puts up 9.0 / 6.0.
When a team doesn’t get many second chances, you need that first one to go in. The only problem with that is Boston College is in the bottom 1/4th of the country, scoring 64.7 ppg. B.C. ranks 273rd in adjusted offensive efficiency, while Duke comes in 30th for that stat, according to KenPom.
Duke Blue Devils vs. Boston College Golden Eagles Head-to-Head
Dukes’ 75-59 win earlier this season was their seventh straight over Boston College, and their third in a row by double digits. The Blue Devils did not cover the -17.5 sportsbook line in the earlier meeting.

Duke Blue Devils vs. Boston College Golden Eagles Prediction
This isn’t a great matchup on paper for the Golden Eagles, who have been historically dominated by Duke, winning just two of 22 ACC regular season matchups. That was also with Krzyzewski at the helm in Durham though, and the Blue Devils don’t have the same March Madness odds as they did in recent years.
Until Duke proves otherwise, they simply can’t be trusted in conference road games. The rest of the ACC has payback on the menu this season as the Blue Devils transition to a new staff.
