March Madness has officially concluded and just delivered us one of the greatest sporting tournaments in history!
The amount of surprises and underdog stories this year was at an all time high! 3 of the 4 teams that remained made their first Final Four appearance in history.
Biggest Upsets
Purdue became the second 1 Seed to lose in the First Round! The loss to Farleigh Dickinson was a historic loss after Purdue put on a fantastic BIG 10 season!
Arizona lost as a 2 Seed to Princeton in the First Round! The shocking defeat was one of the earliest surprises of the tournament. Princeton would end up making the Sweet Sixteen and lose to Creighton.
Final Four Teams
This was the first time in March Madness history that no 1-3 Seeded team reached the Final Four!
Seeing FAU as a 9 seed make the Final Four spot was an absolute surprise as this was their second appearance in tournament history!
The Miami Hurricanes displayed their unbelievable talent through their stretch of games. Miami had one of the hardest paths in tournament history as they defeated a strong Indiana team, 1 Seed Houston, and 2 Seed Texas.
The Canes were outplayed however by UCONN in the Final Four matchup. This was the second straight year that Canes lost to the champions of the tournament, last year was against Kansas.
San Diego State was truly impressive in this tournament as the runner up. Defeating a strong 1 Seed Alabama team was one of the highlights for them.
The Aztecs reached their first Final 4 and closed the game against FAU with a memorable buzzer beater to go through to the finals!
UCONN continued their run of dominating opponents in the finals and defeated San Diego State by 17 points.
The Huskies were super impressive all around this year. They covered the spread in every game this tournament and won each game by 15+ points.
Big man Adama Sanogo was a key factor to the success UConn had. Sanogo averaged 19.7 points and 9.8 rebounds in the tournament. His display of athleticism and leadership should help his NBA draft stock rise.
UCONN has further established their Basketball program as one of the best in the nation. Winning a fifth National title will continue to build the legacy that the Huskies have had on College Basketball.
College Basketball Season Recap
The conclusion of the College Basketball season delivered moments that will live on in history. It was truly an unbelievable display of talent, upsets, and passion.
It might be fair to admit that March Madness is the greatest tournament/playoff in US Sports. This year’s tournament had all the elements to comprise the perfect tournament.
