The Miami Hurricanes are once again dominating the Basketball world in March. The Canes have been playing super intelligent and efficient Basketball in both their March Madness games. This team is quite special and is definitely a level ahead of where they were at last year.
Can The Miami Hurricanes beat the mighty 1 Seed Houston?
Drake
During an impressive First Round against Drake, Miami won the game by 7 in what was a tight match. Norchad Omier ended the game with a double-double, while guard Nijel pack led the scoring with 21 points.
ACC Player of the Season, Isaiah Wong, had a disappointing start in this game, going 1/10 from the field and he ended up scoring a mere 5 points.
Indiana
Miami went on to play the Hossiers on Sunday evening. The Hossiers have been one of the best teams in the nation led by Trayce Jackson-Davis. Trayce scoring 23 points along with 8 boards was not enough though.
Miami played exceptionally well and won the game by 16 points. Norchad Omier collected 17 rebounds in a great display of defense and working hard on offensive rebounds. This game also saw Isiah Wong comeback and score 27 points along with 8 rebounds. Wong and the rest of the teams efforts give the Canes fanbase a lot of confidence going into the game against Houston.
Houston
The Hurricanes will play the 1 seed Houston Cougars on the evening of March 24th. I am super hyped for this game.
Houston has looked fairly decent thus far in this tournament. Having Marcus Sasser back has proved to be a big aid for this squad. Sasser’s absence is perhaps what caused the Cougars to lose to Memphis in the American Athletic Conference.
Miami’s confidence right now is super high and this game should be close. The Canes are currently listed at +7 by the oddsmakers and I believe this is a very decent line. This will be the biggest challenge that Houston faces this season and will put them to the test to see if they are a legitimate contending team to win it all.
Looking Ahead
Overall, Miami’s Basketball program has reached a new level. After making their first Elite 8 appearance last year, things are opening up in a very positive way. This is surely going to open the doors for more recruits to join in the future as well as attract many players in the transfer portal.
The display and athleticism being demonstrated by Miami is just entertaining and joy to witness. This current squad and starting line up seem super aligned with each other and the system that they play under.
The last two seasons have given Canes fans hope of an improvement in the overall Sports program. Having a few weak Football seasons has hurt the morale of the Coral Gables fan base, however, the Basketball has been bringing spirits to life in an exciting way!
