Oral Roberts vs Arkansas Pick and Betting Preview: Saturday, March 27th No. 15 Oral Roberts will be taking on No.3 Arkansas. Oral Roberts is just the second 15-seed to make it into the Sweet 16 and could be the first 15-seed team in the Elite 8 with a win on Saturday.
The Razorbacks (24-6) are back in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1996. The Razorbacks beat Texas Tech in a close matchup 68-66. Arkansas averages 82 points per game under coach Eric Musselman. Oral Roberts (18-10) averages 81.5 points under coach Paul Mills.
Razorbacks Key Players
6-6 guard Moses Moody leads the team averaging 17.1 points and 5.8 rebounds. He isn’t the only scorer on Arkansas, Forward Justin Smith put up 20 points against Texas Tech, and guards Jalen Tate and Davonte Davis averaged double digits. Guard J.D. Notae has been great off the bench averaging 13.1 ppg and two assists.
Golden Eagles Key Players
6-1 guard Max Abmas is leading the country with 24.5 points per game and will remind Razorback fans of Alex Dillard on Saturday. Dillard was a pivotal piece on the 1994 national championship team with his great skill in three-point shooting.
Forward Kevin Obanor is averaging 19 points per game and 9.6 rebounds. Both Abmas and Obanor combined for 113 points in the team’s two tournament wins. They have put in 60.8 percent of the offensive production.
Kevin Obanor vs. Justin Smith will be a great matchup on Saturday. Both teams have a strong set of guards, but this matchup in the interior will be the biggest factor of the game. Obanor was an animal against the Buckeyes and Gators.
Smith was also active on the offensive glass in his matchups. Obanor this season has fouled out four times. Obanor cannot afford to get into any sort of foul trouble, and Arkansas will be looking to test that with Smith on the floor.
In their two matches against the Buckeyes and Gators, the Golden Eagles put up an average of 63.5 shots, including 70 shot attempts against Ohio State. Arkansas ranks sixth in the nation with 64.7 shot attempts per game, so this should be a high-scoring game.
Odds and Trends
The spread is -11.5 for the Razorbacks, and the money line is -620 for Arkansas and +460 for Oral Roberts. The Over/Under is set at 159. The Golden Eagles are 8-2 against the spread in their last ten games, including hitting the over in their last seven games.
Oral Roberts is 11-3 as the underdog this season. Arkansas is 15-6-1 against the spread as favorites this season but is 3-4 and against the spread when the spread is ten or more points.
This matchup could be the highest-scoring game in the Sweet 16 since both teams put up a lot of shots and play at a pace. The Razorbacks have let teams put ten or more three-pointers nine times this season, but they have managed to go 8-1 in those games.
Obanor will need to be the man in control for Oral Roberts. He will have to dominate at both ends of the court for the Golden Eagles to have a chance of winning. The Razorbacks will start to create a decent margin between the teams and take the win in the end.
