3 Most Underrated CFB Teams in the Power 5

Football, NCAAF, CFB, NFL article at Knup Sports

As the CFB season approaches, more Top 25 lists are released. Tommy Burch lists 3 teams in the Power 5 that don’t get enough love on these lists, and why they should be considered.

The college football season is on its way, and preseason is in full effect. Players are proving their abilities and making names for themselves at all levels.

There are probably hundreds of CFB top 25 preseason rankings out right now, and they all have their own takes on who is going to break out this year. However, the 3 most underrated cfb teams in the Power 5 have been shown minimal love and deserve more respect on their names.

Louisville Cardinals

What makes this team electric is the incredible quarterback Malik Cunningham. The dual-threat menace is an absolute beast on the field, averaging nearly 450 yards per game. He threw for almost 3k yards and racked up 19 touchdowns to 6 interceptions. His run game may have been his most vital attribute, putting up over 1k yards on the ground with 20 touchdowns.

Although last year was a 6-7 season for the Cardinals, but 4 of their losses were decided by one score. Their offensive firepower was elite, gaining 446 yards per game. With their elite quarterback play and some good transfer players coming in to help out, there is a lot of potential with this squad.

Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns had a terrible record last year, going 5-7 on the season. However, they have the talent to be a top 10 team in college football and may have one of the best offenses in the Big 12.

Quinn Ewers and Hudson Card quarterback battle will be electric, and both players would be starting qbs on most teams in the FBS. Bijan Robinson is coming back after a 1k-yard rushing year, and Xavier Worthy is an elite young receiver that will make an even greater positive impact.

South Carolina Gamecocks

The Gamecocks had a somewhat difficult schedule in 2021 and still managed a 7-6 record. None of their losses were from teams that should have clearly beaten them, including a loss from No. 2 ranked Georgia and No. 17 ranked Texas A&M.

The sophomore running back duo of Marshawn Lloyd and Juju McDowell will have room to shine now that the duo from last year found their way into the NFL. Spencer Rattler will give the team much better consistency at the quarterback position, as they didn’t hold a starter for much of the season.

Final Thoughts

There are a significant number of incredibly talented teams in college football at all levels. Although these three teams didn’t perform to expectations last year, they are ready to bounce back.

Although there is always the best of the best with college football programs, the 6-25 spots are always available for movement. These teams are capable of being in that upper echelon and making it to the top.

Their conference competition doesn’t fully compete with them, their schedules may be complementary, and their additions and talent make these three teams the three most underrated CFB teams in the Power 5.
