  • Auburn’s running back duo steps up for the Tigers
  • Special Teams could play a crucial part in determining who wins this game

The Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-4) will travel to Auburn to take on the Tigers (6-3) at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Alabama on Saturday at 12 PM EST. Both teams are coming off difficult losses from last week, however, for very different reasons. The Bulldogs dropped a 31-28 nail-biter against Arkansas, while the Tigers got pummeled 20-3 against Texas A&M.

Auburn Preview: Look Out for the Deadly Duo in the Backfield!

Auburn’s offense relies on their strong running game. Running backs Tank Bigsby and Jarquez Hunt both rank in the top 10 in rushing yards within the SEC. Expect Auburn to stick with the narrative and continuously feed these two beasts the ball on Saturday.

The Tigers feature a fairly average defense, especially against the pass. The secondary has a number of questions which does not bode well against a strong passing attack from MSU. The defensive line is strong in stopping the run and pressuring quarterbacks, so their performance will be something to keep tabs on in this one.

They can’t allow opposing quarterback Will Rogers to have time in the pocket to generate quality passes. If they are able to consistently pressure him that could be the difference in this game.

Mississippi State Preview: What’s all the Kicking Commotion?

Is kicking truly the greatest issue for MSU right now? According to coach Mike Leach, absolutely.

He felt as if the kickers were a big reason why the Bulldogs lost last Saturday, and he has announced that the team will be holding an open tryout for kickers. Plenty of students from all over the school have turned in their paperwork and are hoping for a chance to make the team.

One positive note from the MSU football team is the progression of quarterback Will Rogers. The young QB threw for over 400 yards and added four touchdowns in the loss last week. For the season, he has posted over 3,300 yards through the air and 23 touchdowns.

Rogers has undoubtedly been a vital part of the Bulldogs’ overall success in 2021.
