- Louisville beat Syracuse 41-3 last week.
- Duke has yet to win an ACC game.
- Louisville needs one win to become bowl eligible.
Thursday’s ESPN college football game is certainly not their best matchup, but offers some interesting gambling opportunities.
The Louisville Cardinals travel to Durham to face the 3-7 Duke Blue Devils. Louisville is coming off of arguably their most impressive performance of the season, a 41-3 thrashing of the Syracuse Orange.
Duke can help spoil Louisville’s hopes to become a bowl-eligible team, but the Cardinals are heavily favored on the road in Durham.
Thank God for gambling, because this game has little to no juice otherwise.

Duke Preview: Canned Cutcliffe
Duke Head Coach David Cutcliffe is the best football coach in program history for the Blue Devils. Yet, it seems as if the 67-year-old’s days are numbered in Durham.
Cutcliffe is best known for his relationship with the Manning family and his helping hand in developing both Eli and Peyton.
Cutcliffe has also brought the Duke program to some of their best moments, but has only helped them win one ACC game in the last two seasons combined. Assuming they lose to both Louisville and Miami, it will be another lost season for the program. Don’t be surprised if Thursday night is one of the last times we see David Cutcliffe coaching Duke, or any other team as the 67-year-old may look to retirement.

Louisville Preview: Going Bowling
Although the bowl season has greatly diminished in importance over the last few seasons, there is still value in playing in bowl games. Young players can play more snaps and it helps programs build on the momentum for future seasons.
A win on Thursday will make Louisville bowl eligible. They close the season against in-state-rival Kentucky, which will be no cakewalk for the Cardinals.
Hence, expect an inspired effort for Louisville on Thursday. They played arguably their best game of the season on Saturday, a 41-3 win against Syracuse, and need one more to reach a realistic goal for the Louisville program.
Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This College Football Game
It’s hard to lay a big number on the road during a short week, but it is also hard to play Duke in this spot. I am looking for some value in the total in this contest.
Specifically, Duke’s putrid defense, ranking 122nd nationally, leads me to lean over in this spot.
It’s hard to picture the Blue Devils getting too many stops in this spot.
I really see the Louisville offense exploding as the only guarantee on Thursday. An explosion from them usually ends up in the mid-40s in terms of point production. With a 19.5 point spread, you have to expect Duke to put up enough points to carry you over the total in this spot.
I don’t love this pick, as it is always difficult to predict games on a short week where the road team is heavily favored.
