- Louisiana vs Ohio College Football FBS
- Ohio embarrassed by FCS Duquesne 28-26 in Week 2
- Louisiana began season ranked, but lost 38-18 to Texas in Week 1
- Neither team has played well so far in 2021
The two teams come into this Week 3 meeting off games against FCS foes, with Ohio taking a loss and Louisiana barely pulling out an unimpressive 27-24 win over Nicholls State. Under former coach Frank Solich, Ohio went to 10 bowl games in 11 years from 2009 to 2019, but new head man Tim Albin as a lot of work to do to return to that level of performance.
Louisiana expected to challenge for the Sun Belt title, but failed to deliver against Texas and appears to have taken a step back from 2020 when they went 10-1 and defeated UTSA 31-24 in the First Responder Bowl.

Louisiana Preview: Ragin’ Cajuns Looking for a Running Game
Through a pair of games, Louisiana has averaged less than 95 yards a game and 3.2 yards per attempt with one touchdown on the ground. That might not hinder them from winning the game against Ohio, it might make it difficult to cover a 20 point spread when they are only averaging 22.5 points per contest.
The Bobcats are giving up 233 rushing yards a game, so the Ragin’ Cajuns will either be able to improve their stats or face matchup issue, since Ohio is stingier against the pass. The biggest concern for Louisiana should be the 511 yards and average of over seven yards a play they gave up to Nicholls.
Ohio Preview: Bobcats Need to Improve in a Hurry
Ohio had just a three-game schedule in 2020, going 2-1 for their 11th winning season in the last 12 years, going 6-6 in the only non-winning campaign in 2014. The real problem for the Bobcats is their offense, which is averaging 325 yards and 17.5 points a game against a Syracuse team that lost 17-7 to Rutgers and FCS Duquesne.
Defensively, teams are running wild against Ohio and the combination of that along with a sluggish offense doesn’t bode well for the Bobcats. If they can find a way to at least slow down the Ragin’ Cajuns, who don’t pose a big threat on the ground, Ohio may be able to turn around what has been an abysmal start to the season.

With both of these offenses struggling and points at a premium in their first two games, a 20 point line looks pretty high, although that was the margin of victory for Syracuse over Ohio. Louisiana hasn’t shown they can consistently stop opposing offenses, so it might be a good game for the Bobcats to gain some offensive confidence.
