- Both teams are coming off of a bye.
- LSU lost 31-17 at Ole Miss in their last game.
- Alabama beat Tennessee 52-24 in their last game.
Alabama was ranked second in the first college football playoff rankings, which caused a great deal of controversy in the college football world. Yes, Alabama is probably the second-best team in America, but to a certain extent, you need to earn it on the field. Why play the games if the most talented teams get rewarded regardless.
Yet, Alabama has some tough games ahead of them that they need to take care of to be in a position to make another run at a national championship.
Saturday will be Ed Orgeron’s last tilt with the Tide. In his last trip to Bryant-Denny, Orgeron brought in one of the best teams in college football history and took care of business. It’s amazing to see how much can change in two short years. LSU now has no chance on Saturday and will be in search of a new head coach this offseason.

Alabama Preview: True Number 2?
Alabama needs to put together a string of dominant performances to remain in a position to make the playoff. Assuming every team of meaning wins out, (which never is the case) the Tide would need a win against Georgia in the SEC Championship to keep their spot.
Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Oregon all deserve a seat at the table before a team that did not win their own conference.
Therefore, expect a string of inspired performances from Alabama to maintain style points with the committee. Previous committees have placed value on how teams win as opposed to if they win or lose the games. Alabama falls in the category of a team that needs to win big.
LSU Preview: Orgeron’s Last Dance
Ever since LSU won their national championship, they have failed to put together a team anywhere close to the expectations in Baton Rouge. For this reason, Ed Orgeron will be sending his resume across the country this offseason.
The man who dreamt of coaching the Bayou Bengals will get his last shot at Alabama on Saturday with a group of players who have largely quit on the season.
Saturday somewhat resembles the late-season game last year against Florida when LSU shocked the Gators in Gainesville. Could we see a repeat of a non-competitive LSU team ruining someone else’s College Football Playoff chances?
Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This College Football Game
Personally, I don’t want to overthink this pick. LSU’s team has effectively quit on the season and Alabama needs to win big.
The Tide has also been a much better team at home this season. Their only shaky performances came away from home. Expect a focused and determined squad at home, off of a bye.
Also, it’s hard to put any stock into the earlier performances from LSU because their team will look very different this Saturday. Through injuries and opt-outs the Tigers are not nearly the same team.
Take Alabama in this spot.
