• Navy Looking to Rebound from 4-11 Record Since 2020
  • Memphis Hasn’t Won Since Defeating SEC Member Mississippi State
  • Neither Team Will Be a Contender in the American

After Memphis defeated Mississippi State 31-29 to run their record to 3-0, the Tigers were poised to challenge third-ranked Cincinnati and number 23 SMU for supremacy in the American Athletic Conference. Instead, Memphis has dropped their last three contests by a total of 12 points and enter the Navy game winless in conference play.

Navy posted an overall record of 11-2 in 2019, but the Midshipmen have struggled mightily ever since, going 4-11 the last two seasons but they were buoyed by a 34-30 win over UCF two weeks ago and followed it up with a close 31-24 loss to SMU in their next game. It’s unlikely for either of these teams to compete for a conference title, but a victory could at least keep them in contention for a bowl game berth.

Navy vs Memphis Pick & Preview - College Football Week 7

Navy Preview: Offense is One Dimensional and Ineffective

Navy is averaging a respectable 220 yards per game running the football, but that is far below what they need to be doing when they can only average 63 yards through the air. In their lone win against UCF, the Midshipmen were able to run for 128 above their season average, but still only managed 58 passing yards.

The team has shown improvement over the last two games and has a good chance for taking advantage of the three-game slide that Memphis finds itself in the middle of. Navy is 1-2 in the conference and both losses came by a single score to American Conference frontrunners Houston and SMU.

Memphis Preview: Defensive Turnaround the Key to Victory

Tulsa ran for 234 yards and Temple put up 159 yards in their defeats of Memphis in their most recent games. The Tigers are averaging just under 500 yards per game, but they’re also allowing 458 yards per contest to their opponents.

The defensive problems for Memphis are exacerbated by the drop in average points from 43 in their opening three wins to 29 in their subsequent three losses. If they can shut down the ground game of the Midshipmen, the Tigers will likely be able to prevail and put up big numbers on the Navy.

Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This College Football Game

Navy appears to be making improvements in their running game in what was most likely their toughest three-game conference stretch of the season. The spread of 10.5 points seems to loom quite large given the Navy’s ability to hang with two of the top teams in the league while Memphis has struggled in their last three games.
