• Ole Miss beat Mississippi State 31-24 last season.
  • Ole Miss beat Vandy 31-17 last week.
  • Mississippi St. won their last SEC game 43-34 against Auburn

This year’s Egg Bowl is an intriguing matchup between two top 25 teams. While everyone watches the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, maybe take a peek at the action in Starkville between hated rivals.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State have one of the most underrated rivalries in college football and this game has more juice than in years past. Mike Leach and Lane Kiffin have settled into their newish jobs and have a chance to make a statement on Thanksgiving.

Ole Miss Preview: Sunshine Distraction

While Ole Miss goes for their 10th win of the season, a good portion of the fan base is a touch worried that Lane Kiffin may be gone by season’s end.

Reports have suggested that Kiffin would take the Miami job in the offseason if it opens up. Miami is expected to move on from Manny Diaz, and Kiffin may take over the Hurricane program.

It’s hard to say that this is the last regular-season game at Ole Miss for Lane Kiffin, but the leak at this time of the season must mean something is up.

Mississippi State Preview: Air Leach

The Mike Leach experiment in Starkville is going exactly as expected. The Bulldogs have the ability to beat anybody, while simultaneously producing some head-scratching losses.

A win at Kyle Field against Texas A&M is one of the best wins of the season but loses to LSU and Memphis make no sense.

In their last SEC contest, the Bulldogs scored 40 straight to knock off Auburn.

The Bulldogs air it out more than any team in America and have a chance to expose the Ole Miss secondary.

In a week where former Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen was relieved of his duties at Florida, Mike Leach has a chance to add a signature win and further cement his status as a good fit in Starkville.

Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This College Football Game

Mississippi State has covered their last four contests, while Ole Miss is 1-2 against the spread on the road this season. The Rebels are 1-3 against the spread against ranked opponents this season.

The trends all point towards the Bulldogs at home on Thursday. Also, the Lane Kiffin distraction could hurt the Rebels in this spot.

As for the total, Ole Miss games have gone under in six straight. Ole Miss has stopped putting up video game numbers offensively and has changed their approach to the game to suit injuries on that side of the ball.

However, Mississippi State has gone over in three straight as their offense starts to click.

Stay away from the total, but take the Bulldogs at home.
