In this Conference Championship matchup, fans can look forward to a dog fight. Both Pittsburgh and Wake Forest have confidence and more than capable QBs, solid offensive lines, and concise play styles. For Pitt, it’s Kenny Pickett. Kenny has had an extraordinary season and looks to cap it off with an ACC Conference Championship and bowl game berth. Pickett is up for several national honors, including a candidate for the Maxwell Award. Kenny’s experience coupled with Pittsburgh’s ability to send out a balanced attack will certainly keep Wake Forest on their toes.
For Wake Forest, their offense is run by Sam Hartman, who joins Kenny Pickett as a Maxwell Award Finalist. Sam has improved his play this year and the performance of each team’s QB will play a huge role in this ACC contest. Both teams’ ability to convert on 3rd down may also play a larger role in this game as each QB has exceptional 3rd down statistics. The QB position will be a heavy focus area for each coaching staff as they each try to slow down a Maxwell Award Finalist.

Pittsburgh Panthers Preview: Path to ACC Glory
Pittsburgh has been extremely impressive this season mixing run and pass, and with weekly standout performances from Pitt WR, Jordan Addision, Pittsburgh has been rolling. Addison’s play has paved the way for a season filled with TD receptions for #3. He has racked up 15 scores and nearly 1,300 receiving yards in 2021 and looks to expose the Demon Deacons secondary on December 4th in Charlotte.
As for the Pittsburgh rushing attack, it is effective but not overpowering by any means. This season, Pitt ran a three-headed attack on the ground with Israel Abanikanda, Vincent Davis & Rodney Hammond Jr. Although all three contributed to the offense this season, I am sure Pittsburgh Offensive Coordinator, Mark Whipple would like to see one of those guys breakout in this year’s ACC Championship Game. In games Kenny Pickett benefitted from an effective run game, the team was really able to open up the playbook with play-action passes and unique designed run plays. Pittsburgh will need to rely on the rushing attack to add a balance to the offense this coming weekend. No mistakes about this though, in order to secure an ACC Conference Championship in Charlotte, Kenny Pickett will need to play stellar.
Wake Forest Preview: Homefield Advantage?
Like Pittsburgh, Wake Forest has relied heavily on their passing attack this season. Wideout, A.T. Perry has shown he is a star in the making. His 11 TD grabs have really provided some unusual production out of the Demon Deacons’ passing attack and receiver core. For the Demon Deacons, the A.T. Perry – Sam Hartman connection is among the best in the entire country. What is really mind-boggling about this matchup is how truly well they match up. Similar to Pittsburgh’s offensive unit, Wake Forest relies heavily on experience from the QB position, playmaking ability from the outside, and ball security from the backs. For those reasons, the turnover differential will play a huge role in the outcome of the ACC Championship Game.
The overall mindset of this team though, is what can really leap them past Pitt and into the king’s chair in the ACC. From special teams to defense and carrying over to the offensive unit, the mentality of this team is to play sound football all around. Special teams, for example, will play a large role in this ACC contest. If Wake can earn a good field position and win that battle against Pitt, they can provide some serious damage. Special teams have been an area of focus and a great improvement for this squad with their field goal kicker notching an amazing 54 of 54 on extra points, and 18 of 20 on field goals. Due to the fact these teams match up with one another so well, it may come down to a nerve-racking kick at the end. Keep an eye out for late-game special teams plays that can really play a large role in determining the outcome of the game.
Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This College Football Game
From a betting perspective, this should be a very interesting game. Wake Forest is currently headed into the ACC Championship Game +3.5 and the over/under is set at 72.5 points. This season, Pittsburgh is very effective against the spread (ATS) with a record of 9-3. As for the Demon Deacons, they come into the game with a 6-6 record against the spread (ATS). Vegas and oddsmakers alike are suggesting this game to be a nail-biter and look for a big play down the stretch to determine the outcome of this game. This game should be back and forth and will come down to turnover differential and who can execute the big play inside 5-10 minutes to go in the final quarter. Pittsburgh has a very solid record against the spread and I expect them to do the same in this one. Having Heisman and Maxwell Award Candidate, Kenny Pickett slinging the ball to this wideout group should put Pittsburgh in another situation to beat the spread!
