• Texas is reeling after what some would call one of the worst losses in program history, as the Kansas Jayhawks knocked off the Longhorns in OT at home.
  • This is not the WVU of old as they are 2 games below .500 and struggling to find an identity on both sides of the ball.
  • This was a really fun game three years ago with much more at stake for both teams. This year, seemingly a battle of who can not suck as much.

Texas is on a 5 game skid after the monkey incident, and things look as bleak as ever for Coach Sark in his 1st year at the helm. Ever since the 2nd half fold against OU and Monkeygate, this team has been desperate for a W. That may be harder than it seems even in their eyes as Heisman candidate Bijan Robinson is hanging it up for the year after a dislocated elbow suffered in last week’s thriller loss to Kansas.

This is an important game for Sark and the horns as they fight to get bowl eligible and find some sort of stepping stone into next year. For WVU, it’s a similar story, sitting at 4-6 as well, with a couple of good wins over teams like TCU and Iowa State, they hope to get the best versions of themselves this weekend because that is seemingly the only time they can play good football. A sloppy and undisciplined team who likes to give the ball away will need to keep it tight this weekend to try and defend their home turf.

Texas vs West Virginia Matchup at a Glance

Texas Preview: Monkey Butt!!

We are 4 weeks removed from the news break of Texas’ Special Teams coordinator, being married to a stripper who owns a pet monkey…(psst. That’s not the whole story) biting someone in public. It feels like a fever dream really and it seems to be an all too primal tone set in Austin. Not in a good way however, as the team has dropped four straight and Sark’s pressers continue to be like a bad reality TV show.

The only way you can begin to describe their football is “playing like monkey butt”. The defense has seemingly lost their way as they are giving up over 30ppg in their last 5 games including 57 points to Kansas, who came in averaging 14ppg and had not won a game in the Big 12. Sark will have to prove his “offensive genius” title this weekend after Bijan Robinson was declared out for the season this week. Losing a guy of his caliber late in the season will prove tough, as the offense was centered around him and how well they could run the rock.

Things will have to be different and they will have to push the ball downfield with a subpar passing attack that up to this point has been inconsistently averaging 238 ypg thru the air. Will the curse of the chimp continue? Or will Sark bring his guys out of the Animal Kingdom, and into the Appalachian trail and come out on top of the Mountain in Morgantown.

West Virginia Preview: Mountain(eed to win a game)

WVU is searching, not only for a win, but for an Identity. Ever since Dana Holdgerson left for Houston this team has been a bit of a mess. They are struggling to find their footing in recruiting and struggling to find any sort of consistency on both sides of the ball. Thus could not be more of an average team statistically, 40th in passing, 115th and rushing, 164th in total offense and 54th in total defense.

Those numbers are not going to get it done when you play in the high flying Big 12. If not for a couple shocking wins over TCU and Iowa state this team would be in very hot water, and all of a sudden this weekend they have a chance to get one game below .500 with a Kansas matchup in the last week awaiting them. WVU will look to be the Mountaineers of old, and starch the weak Texas pass defense with a QB in Jarret Doege who has a chance to clear the 3000-yard bar this week with a big-time game that would likely give them the W.

Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This College Football Game

WVU is favored by 3 points in the spread and I am taking that all day. If you are looking for maybe some sucker odds, feel free to play around with Texas ML at +130, but WVU sits at -150 and that seems to be a game you can throw in the parlay to lock it in for the weekend…oh yea O/U 56.5…over over over. Defense will not exist Saturday. I will be taking WVU spread and parlaying the points this weekend.
