Always subjective but always fun. That is how I describe looking at the Top Defense in College Football in 2018. There are many teams worthy but this is our look.

  1. Clemson-The Tigers return the entire defensive lines for the 2018 season. Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant are two of the top 20 defenders in the nation. Send them out to the field to be joined by linebacker Tre Lamar, tackler Kendall Joseph, and cornerback Trayvon Mullen and this is the best defense in the country.
  2. Wisconsin– The Badgers are stingy on the defensive side of the football with T.J. Edwards, Ryan Connelly, and Olive Sagapolu in the middle flanked with D’Cota Dixon at safety and Andrew Van Ginkel rushing the passer. This team is good and will be elite.
  3. Alabama– It is well known that the Tide lost several players from last year but Coach Saban just reloads his defense and will send linebackers Mack Wilson, Dylan Moses, Anfernee Jennings and Christian Miller. Raekwon Davis and Isaiah Buggs are the leading returning tacklers to run the defense.
  4. Ohio StateNick Bosa will be a top draft pick after the season and he will be flanked by Tuf Borland, Dre’Mont Jones, Chase Young and a secondary that is top notch.
  5. Michigan Devin Bush Jr. and Rashan Gray get most of the ink from the defense but add in Khaleke Hudson and Chase Winovich and this defense is fantastic.
  6. Georgia– The Bulldogs may have one of the best cornerbacks in the coutnry with Deandre Baker on the field and J.R. Reed is a great tackler. They will be supplemented by Tyler Clark and Jonathan Ledbetter to solidify the defense.
  7. Michigan State– The front seven of the Spartans which saw Joe Bachie get 100 tackles last year and Kenny Willekes garner seven sacks. Contributions from Khari Willis, David Dowell, Justin Layne, and Josiah Scott will solidify this defense.
  8. Miami– Everything starts with Shaq Quarterman at middle linebacker and then you spread out to the ends and find Joe Jackson and Michael Jackson. Add in top safety Jaquan Johnson and it will be hard to score on the Hurricanes.
  9. Florida– A new coach brings a new scheme on defense. Look for the 3-4 defense to feature CeCe Jefferson, Jabari Zuniga, Jachai Polite, Luke Ancrum Zachary Carter, Antonneous Clayton and Malik Langham (freshman) a 4-star prospect the Gators pulled out of Alabama
  10. Wyoming– The Cowboys enjoy having Andrew Wingard in his senior season as he will add to the 114 career tackles and Logan Wilson bringing his 119 stops to the field. They bring back six tacklers with includes Carl Granderson as the leader.

Just Missed: Boise State, Washington, LSU
