This season has some great contests to start the 2017 college football off on the right foot. Games begin as early at August 26th and the 1st week officially ends on September 4th. Here are a dozen games that have some intrigue to start the season.

August 31st 8PM on ESPN- Ohio State vs. Indiana

This is a fun game to start the Big Ten Conference as former Indiana coach, Kevin Wilson, comes back as the offensive coordinator for the Buckeyes. Look for JT Barrett to come out slinging the ball. The Hoosiers have quarterback Richard Lagow returning from a stellar season as he has two favorite targets with Nick Westbrook and the return from injury of Simmie Cobb. Current line: OSU -20.5

September 1st 8PM ESPNU- Navy vs. Florida Atlantic

Why is this game special? It’s the return to head coaching of Lane Kiffin as he guides the Owls. Navy will likely be a patient team which will frustrate Kiffin. Also, the Midshipmen had some 3rd down issues last season. Current line: Navy -13

September 2nd 12 pm FS1- Maryland vs. Texas

Just to watch the face and eyes of new head coach Tom Herman of the Longhorns might be enough to turn this game on. He will count on quarterback Shane Buechele to get a winning season. Dual-threat quarterback Sam Ehlinger, receiver Damion Miller and linebacker Gary Johnson were the top recruits in the class, The Terrapins, from the Big Ten Conference, are coach by D.J. Durkin in his second season. Running back will have returnees Ty Johnson and Lorenzo Harrison as quarterback Caleb Henderson will be called upon to run a high octane offense. Current line: Texas -17

September 2nd 7:30 pm FOX- Louisville vs. Purdue

This game features Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson as he leads the Cardinals against the Boilermakers which is being played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Purdue will be led by first year head coach Jeff Brohm who formerly coached at Western Kentucky. Junior David Blough threw for 3,352 yards and 25 touchdowns last season but also tossed 21 interceptions. Current line: Louisville -25

September 2nd NOON BTN- Wyoming vs. Iowa

This game is a must watch as Josh Allen, Wyoming quarterback, has the public buzzing about his big arm and possibilities of getting a high draft pick in the NFL. Iowa will turn to either Nathan Stanley and Tyler Wiegers to quarterback a stagnant offense from last year. It will help if Jeremy VandeBerg and Jerminic Smith are both healthy to receive the pass. Akrum Wadley will be the primary ball handler for coach Kirk Ferentz. Current line: Iowa -12.5.

September 2nd 3pm ESPN- NC State vs South Carolina

These two teams are not really on the top caliber list but are going to be major sleepers throughout the season. However, watching this game will bring together two All-American candidates Skai Moore and Bradley Chubb face off on the same field. Current line: NCST -6

September 3rd 7:30pm FOX- Texas A&M vs, UCLA

This has barnburner written all over it after the thriller of last season. Neither coach, Kevin Sumlin and Jim Mora Jr., an afford to lose as they go directly to the hot seat. UCLA counts on Josh Rosen to trigger the offense after a shoulder injury last year. Coach Mora brought in four new assistant coaches and will count on Soso Jamabo, Bolu Olorunfunmi and Nate Starks to led the running part of the game. The Aggies will rely on junior receiver Christian Kirk and sophomore running back Trayveon Williams to score points from one of three new quarterbacks. Current line: UCLA -3

September 3rd 7:30pm ESPN- West Virginia vs. Virginia Tech

This is a great matchup in the state of Virginia. The Hokies coach Justin Fuente has at least three quarterbacks to choose from but it appears Justin Jackson has won the battle and receiver Cam Phillips is the only returning player with game experience. The defense will have to carry this team as they rely on lots of experience. West Virginia has pegged Florida transfer quarterback Will Grier to start the season coming off of an NCAA suspension. The Mountaineers will have a decent record going into the final three games of the season which will make or break their bowl bid. Current line: Virginia Tech -4.5

September 2nd 9:30pm ESPN- BYU vs LSU

Why wait up late for this contest? Derrius Guice will be running the ball for the Tigers but he will face a team full of experience with BYU. Tanner Mangum will return as quarterback after he played in 2015 as a very good replacement. Look for him to become a big star for BYU. Don’t go to bed early on this one. Current line: LSU -12.5

September 4th 8pm ESPN- Tennessee vs.Georgia Tech

These teams are not far apart geographically nor in talent as they are part of a doubleheader in Atlanta on Labor Day Offensive coordinator for the Vols, Larry Scott, is excited that he has two strong arm quarterbacks, Quinten Dormady and Jarrett Guarantano, to pick from as they may move away from the spread offense they are known for. The Yellow Jackets head coach Paul Johnson will use his triple threat offense most of the time as he is deciding which quarterback he wants to start game one. Current line: Tennessee -3.5

September 2nd 3:30pm ABC- Michigan vs. Florida

Both teams are hoping to set the tone for the rest of the season as they play tough competition to open up the season. This Big Ten vs. SEC contest is always huge in the football world with two big ego coaches in Jim McElwain and Jim Harbaugh. This expects to be a good contest but Florida just suspended 7 players for this contest. Current line: Michigan -3.5

September 2nd 8pm ESPN- Florida State vs. Alabama

This is like a heavyweight prize fight that some have dubbed the Game of the Century. Jimbo Fisher is a Nick Saban protege and many will be looking for the coaching similarities. This game will abound with several future NFL players. This is the first game at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. This is a big game and a punch in the gut for the loser.
Current line: Alabama -7
