EA Sports announced Madden NFL “The Yard” Invitational, where we will see different influencers and professional players go head to head.

EA announced an invitational event for the Madden NFL video game series, named EA Sports Madden NFL “The Yard” Invitational. The competition will see different influencers and professional players go head to head in a unique team-based experience.

The Yard is a six-on-six game of American football. Players handle both offensive and defensive sides of the ball and are capable of doing basically everything anywhere on the field.

The Yard is not like NFL street; instead, most of the cool things you do come from improvising after the ball is snapped rather than running around on fire because of how well you are playing.

Rules are able to change from match to match, and they allow different things such as multiple forward passes behind the line of scrimmage. You are given bonus points for interceptions and fumble recoveries, with many more features in the game that allow a more immersive experience.

The EA-organised tournament is using “The Yard” mode because they want to re-imagine gameplay by introducing teams and collaborative strategies in a way that can be used for future Madden Championship Series events.

Competitors are able to design their own jerseys and avatars. The match-ups take place on a backyard-style Pizza Hut virtual football field. Matt Marcou, Madden NFL Competitive Gaming Commissioner, spoke on the new tournament in a release: “The Madden NFL, ‘The Yard’ Invitational, is unlike anything we’ve done before.”” This is a fast-paced, dynamic game mode, which will offer fans and players another opportunity to experience the excitement of team-based Madden NFL gameplay. It’s a glimpse into how we might experiment with this format for future Madden competitions.”

The NFL “The Yard” Invitational will begin on Friday, March 5, 6:00 p.m. ET, when eight teams of two will duke it out in a round-robin style tournament to figure out who the final four teams will be. All the games will be streamed on the official Madden NFL Twitch and YouTube channel for fans to watch and enjoy.

The final four teams will then join an influencer who will act as their captain. The influencers are Tommy’ YoBoyPIZZA’ Foster, Kristopher London, as well as Dockery, and Erin Ashley Simon, who were in the finals of the most recent tournament.

Team Erin was leading in the last game, and it looked like they were going to win the championship, but team Dockery came back with an amazing double pass play to edge past Team Erin Ashley Simon 24-23 in the fifth game of the series to take the trophy.

You can rewatch the exciting series between Team Erin and Team Docery on EA’s official website or on YouTube.

The competing teams will field the following players:

  • BND: Henry “Henry” Leverette and Pavan “Pavan” Lakhat
  • ELI: Jordan “Millz” Thompson and Dwayne “CleffTheGod” Wood
  • EMB: Tony “Young Tony” Calloway and Frank “Stiff” Sardoni Jr.
  • Tew Dewds: Kyle “KMaC” McAllister and Eric “Problem” Wright
  • DRI/JCP: Drini “Drini” Gjoka and Joel “JoelCP” Crooms-Porter
  • TNC: Jacob “Fancy” Worthington and Jacob “Jwall” Wallack
  • YGNJ: Noah “Noahupnxt” Johnson and Jonathan “Jonbeast” Marquez
  • 818: Shay “Kiv” Kivlen and Wesley “Wesley” Gittens

After the first day of the competition, the four captains, Dockery, Erin Ashley Simon, Kristopher London, and YoBoyPizza will take part in a draft-style team selection process, where they’ll choose their final four teams. The tournament will then continue with the best-of-five semi-finals, and the final championship round will play out a day later, on Saturday, March 6 at 6:00 p.m. ET.
