The North American League of Legends team, Team Liquid, announced the signing of Steven “Hans Sama” Liv. The former Rogue player has joined Team Liquid for the 2022 season as their new starting ADC.
Hans Sama Debuts In NA
Hans Sama began his LoL esports career in November 2014, when he played for a stack named The Gentle Team. He later moved to e-corp Gentle and Millenium before landing at Misfits Gaming in June 2016.
With Misfits Gaming, Hans Sama made a debut in the LoL European Championship (LEC), where he would spend the next 3.5 years of his career. Even though Hans Sama did not win a single title with the Bunnies, his talent did not go unnoticed and eventually landed him a contract with Rogue.
Hans Sama hasn’t achieved much with Misfits but has found serious traction while playing for Rogue. Having elevated his game at his new team, Hans Sama quickly emerged as one of the top players in his position, leading Rogue through the organization’s most successful years.
Since adding Hans Sama to the team, Rogue emerged as one of the top-three teams in Europe, winning two LEC regular-season splits, and made it to the finals of the LEC 2021 Spring Playoffs.
However, despite the team’s success across the last two years, Rogue decided to part ways with Hans Sama, who will now continue his career with Team Liquid.
A New LCS Superteam
The 22-year-old European LoL star transferred overseason to Team Liquid for the 2022 LoL season on Tuesday, November 23. His arrival was officially announced just a day after Liquid unveiled the addition of Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau.
Although an expected move, Team Liquid’s offseason changes got everyone talking, and rightfully so. Since the rumors of Liquid’s new roster surfaced, it became very clear that the NA esports organization is looking to build a new superteam.
So far, they’ve delivered to the expectations, adding some of the biggest Western LoL talents to the roster. And that includes Hans Sama, who was widely regarded as one of the top ADC players of the 2021 season.
Beyond signing Bwipo and Hans Sama, Team Liquid are also expected to add Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg as their new mid laner, rounding up one of the most stacked rosters in the LCS. Interestingly, with the addition of Bjergsen, Liquid would technically have no NA native players in the team.
The recent signings make a lot of sense, as Liquid look to elevate their game for the 2022 season. As one of the top teams of the 2021 season, Liquid failed to live up to expectations.
Even though they have made it to back-to-back split finals, Liquid first had to admit defeat to Cloud9 in the LCS 2021 Mid-Season Invitational and then lost their shot at the LCS title in the LCS 2021 Championship, where they lost against 100 Thieves.
While there are no guarantees, Team Liquid’s roster for the 2022 season looks set to compete for the organization’s fifth LCS title. Furthermore, if all the pieces fall into the right place, Liquid could also cause some damage at the 2022 LoL Worlds – slated to take place in North America later next year.
