The Exciting Updates From The Nintendo Direct Livestream

Nintendo Direct is over. With forty captivating minutes of Nintendo reveals, news, and gameplay, there are going to be many new exciting games and characters coming to the Nintendo universe.

Kazuya Joining Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Fight

Starting with a wonderfully crafted trailer, Kazuya from the legendary Tekken series is finally joining the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate fight. In the trailer, you can see Kazuya throwing off many characters from the Nintendo universe into a flowing lava pit.

Followed by a short round of Smash where Kazuya fights some of the characters in the Smash universe showcasing some of his new moves. The trailer then flashes back to throwing characters inside of a volcano which causes him to undergo a transformation into demon mode. It then cuts to Kazuya destroying characters in Smash with ease allowing viewers to get a feel of how powerful the character may become.

It also showcases a fight with Heihachi who is the father of Kazuya which is leaving fans to believe that Heihachi may also be joining the Smash family. The trailer ends with Kazuya throwing none other than the lovable classic character Kirby into the void but in classic Kirby fashion as the trailer fades out you can see Kirby floating back up towards the surface out of the clutches of Kazuya’s beating.

Following the trailer, there is a brief interlude followed by Masahiro Sakurai the director of Super Smash Brothers Ultimate talking about the different moves Kazuya is going to have.

These moves entail: Tsunami Kick, Searing Edge, Flash Punch Combo, Steel Pedal Drop, Flash Tornado, Nejiri Uraken, Crouch Spin Kick, Twin Pistons, Sternum Smash, Jumping Sobat, Spinning Demon to Left Hook, Dragon Uppercut, Tombstone Crusher, Gates of Hell, Wind God Fist, Crouch Jab, Roundhouse to Triple Spin Kicks, Rising Toe Kick, Stature Smash, Crouch Dash, Left Splits Kick, Stonehead, Demon God Fist, Oni Front Kick, Double Face Kick, Demon Scissors, Jump Side Kick, Demon’s Wrath, Leaping Sidekick, Jumping Knuckle, Air Inferno, and finally Kazuya’s 10 hit combo.

Life is Strange, Square Enix, Astria Ascending

After the announcement of Kazuya in Smash, expectations were soaring, and Nintendo delivered. The next game on the list was from the Life is Strange series. Both Life is Strange Remastered and Life is Strange True Colors were announced. Life is Strange True Colors is to be released on September 10th, 2021. While the remastered version of Life is Strange is still TBD for sometime later this year.

Square Enix made an appearance as well in the new Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game. It is made apparent that you are to fulfill your destiny and save the galaxy. Looking extremely action-packed with all of the characters you know and love, the game is set for release on October 26th, 2021. This is followed by the announcement of Team17’s game Worms Rumble. A 32 player battle FFA with many different abilities and gadgets, Worms Rumble is sure to be a fun time for all players who love fast, chaotic gameplay. It will be available for download on June 23rd, 2021.

The tide shifts after the Worms announcement with the game Astria Ascending, a turn-based combat game where you are to create a team of demi-gods all with unique abilities to scale a beautifully drawn world. Astria Ascending launches September 30th, 2021. Two Point Campus, a simulation game in which you build your glorious campus, is also coming to the Switch. It’ll feature a wide variety of style and unique features that allows for an in-depth and immersive simulation experience. It will be available sometime within the next year.

Legendary Series of Super Monkey Ball

The next major announcement comes from a legendary series of Super Monkey Ball. Celebrating their 20th anniversary as one of the most unique platformers ever, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is going to combine the best of all 20 years of Super Monkey Ball into one game that will roll into the hearts of the millions who buy the game. The game will be available on October 5th, 2021.

Following such an amazing comes is a game that is equal to the classic-ness of Super Monkey Ball. That game is Mario Party Superstars. That’s right Super Mario 64 is getting remastered with the same maps you love such as Space Land, Peach’s Birthday Cake, and plenty of other maps to keep you entertained.

It should also be mentioned that there will be over 100 minigames that come included in the game. The game also supports button support for Switch Lite and also the ability to play multiplayer and school all of your friends in a classic game of Mario Party. The game will be available on October 29th, 2021.

Metroid Dread Announcement

Now for a moment a lot of Nintendo players have been waiting for… That announcement is the announcement of Metroid Dread. This game has a wonderful trailer that showcases all of the different weapons and enemies you will face as you roll, shoot, dodge, and block your way through this amazing 2d shooter platformer.

The trailer begins with a short cutscene that has Samus walking through a hallway only to stumble upon a robot who is seemingly invincible to his different attacks. The gameplay then cuts to the 2d look as Samus jumps around showcases different moves and attacks just to escape his robot assassin. Unfortunately, the robot catches up to him just as the gameplay sequence fades, so who knows what the future holds for Samus.

The game is set to launch on October 8th, 2021. Nintendo also knows how to party, announcing and showcasing some of the gameplay for Just Dance 2022 with over 40 new hit songs it’s bound to be a family favorite. The game will be released on November 4th, 2021.

More Trailers & Games from Nintendo

A new speedy racing game is hitting the Switch scene, Cruis’n Blast. The video showcased the 3d game by showing a trailer of none other than a bunch of cars boosting, crashing into one another, and using abilities to ultimately come out on top of such a heated race. The game should be available sometime in the autumn.

Dragon Ball Z also comes to the Switch as Kakarot showcases four different stories where you play as Goku. They are as follows the Saiyan Saga where you protect the Earth versus the likes of Vegeta. Frieza Saga where you fight against the emperor.

Cell, where you fight against androids, and Majin Buu Saga in which you are faced against what the trailer calls “the most fearsome foe”. That’s not all, you are also meant to explore the world of Dragon Ball Z. The trailer shows Goku helping the locals fish, gather resources, and train to gain new skills.

The trailer also has a side note for the new power awakening set that is coming to the Switch at the same time of September 24th, 2021.

Mario Golf Super Rush

Mario Golf: Super Rush is up next, it shows the four different modes that you can choose as you play the game. The first one being standard golf, which is a simple game of relaxed golf where you try to go under par. This shows Mario on different maps golfing around trees, around huge sand pillars, and also making sure you don’t hit any Pokeys along the way.

The next game mode is Speed Golf. Where the name of the game is to make sure that you are the first one to get the ball in the hole. You can use special dashes and abilities just like it shows Luigi dashing through his opponents to take his lead on the course. Thirdly is battle golf. The trailer shows a huge nine-hole map where you compete to capture three flags to beat out your opponent in the ultimate game of golf.

The last and final mode is Golf Adventure where you can use your favorite Mii character to complete challenges to be the best golfer that has ever touched the course. The game will be available on June 25th, 2021 with pre-orders available now.

Monster Hunter Stories 2

Monster Hunter gets their fair share in the showcase in their new game Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Where you collect materials, ride different creatures, craft new items, and train in this RPG world using turn-based combat to rise to the top.

You can play solo or with friends and there are even some unique features such as eggs which you can hatch and have powerful creatures to use at your disposal. The demo will be available on June 25th.

WarioWare

Who doesn’t love WarioWare? With tons of different minigames, you can be sure to have a blast. It showcases squeezing toothpaste onto a brush, tweezing hair from a statue’s armpit, unclogging the sink, shaking apples from a tree, and much more to do.

These micro mini-games are sure to run you wild. The best part is you can also play it with a friend in co-op mode! The game WarioWare Get It Together! will launch on September 10th, 2021.

Shin Megami Tensei V

Shin Megami Tensei V comes next, an ordinary high school now turned apocalyptic society finds the main character fusing with an entity to become stronger than the enemies before them. The trailer shows the protagonist running through the streets of the apocalyptic city, destroying monsters in a command-based combat system.

Finding weak points and catering attacks to them is the only way to survive. But that’s not all, the trailer showcases the ability to talk to said monsters to form allies and friends to defeat the most formidable foes. The game will be available only for the Switch on November 12th, 2021.

Danganronpa

The world of Danganronpa comes to the Switch with the announcement of Danganronpa Decadence with plenty of games within one package such as Daganronpa V3 Killing Harmony which follows the players as they have to choose and refute different scenarios to find out who is guilty of the heinous crimes that are happening within the school.

It also includes other games like Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc, and Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair. And a board game edition of the game which has been labeled as Danganronpa S Ultimate Summer Camp. It is set to release later this year.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water shows that horror makes for a great game as you follow different characters’ stories as they wander through the world looking for answers and fighting off malicious entities along the way. It is set to release sometime later this year.

New Addons Coming This Year

New add-ons are also coming this year one of them being Doom Eternal, it is getting an update in which you will explore demon-infested ruins and rain swept terrain. This is followed up by the remastered version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2.

The game will include all of the original game modes and will have beautifully updated mechanics and graphics for the Switch. It will launch on Nintendo on June 25th, 2021.

Next Three Switch Games

The next three games coming to the switch starting with Strange Brigade which will be released on June 15th. Your goal is to kill the enemies before you and also solve puzzles to advance through the story. You can either go it alone or you can gather with friends to achieve your goals.

The Mario x Rabbids release was also anticipated during the Nintendo Direct stream. Fight alongside your favorite Mario characters as you explore the Rabbid’s wild world. It will be available sometime in 2022.

Last in this section of games is Advance Wars a turn-based tactic game whose name of the game is to simply take out the enemy army using tactics that outplay your opponents. It will remaster and redesign both 1 + 2 and will be available December 3rd, 2021.

The very last segment details all of the brand new changes coming to the Zelda world starting with the new Hyrule expansion patch Age of Calamity. A fierce new battleground for the Hyrule world with new weapon types, challenges, enemies, stages, and battle skills it will come in two available waves.

Wave 1 – Pulse of the Ancients will be available on June 18th, 2021. While wave 2 – Guardians of Remembrance will be available sometime in November of 2021. The expansion should give insight into the events that took place 100 years before the Breath of the Wild series in the Zelda universe.

The next game introduced is The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD which is a handheld and controller game in which you are sucked into a world of ancient time that allows the player to finally understand how The Legend of Zelda came to pass.

It also explains that the origin of the master sword will be explained within the campaign. It is meant to come out sometime within the next month. Also introduced is the new Game & Watch system which hosts three classic Legend of Zelda games. The original Legend of Zelda, The Legend of Zelda Two: the Adventure of Link, and The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening.

Plus a bonus of the game Vermin which will star Link as the main character. It will also host a playable clock that is based solely on The Legend of Zelda and an interactive timer based on The Legend of Zelda Two.

Finally, the final announcement in The Legend of Zelda series follows the infamous showing of Breath of the Wild 2, a sequel to the original Breath of the Wild. It shows Link free-falling in the skies of Hyrule where it is said to take place.

With many unique abilities and strange gravitational anomalies, it is sure to be an interesting world. But danger lurks very close as it shows an ominous look around the Hyrule world. It will be available sometime in 2022.

There were plenty of great announcements in the new Nintendo Direct stream. It covered new games for all types of players. Whether you are an avid fan of competitive games like Smash or Cruis’n Blast or a fan of relaxing games like Mario Golf or Two Point Campus.

There was a lot to unpack in 40 minutes but show that many games are coming to the mix in 2021 and some in 2022. But it does make you wonder these two questions. When will the switch pro be announced? And when is Splatoon 3 coming?
