The biggest golf tournament of the year is only a couple months away so let’s take a look at some of the best bets you can make come April. From Rory McIlroy to Tiger Woods this article will examine the bets you need to make for the Masters.

Rory McIlroy

Rory has never won the Masters which is the only major keeping him from the career grand slam. After a 2nd place finish last year along with winning the FedEx Cup he enters this year’s Masters as the favorite at +950.

The historic career of McIlroy is only missing one thing and you can be assured that he will do everything he can to win it this year. However, even coming off a career year and being the favorite, are the odds worth it?

No, any golfer not named Tiger Woods in his prime should not be your bet when the odds are less than +1000. Not to say Rory won’t win but the odds are just not on your side when it comes to this year’s tournament.

Jon Rahm

Rahm already has two wins in 2023 and always needs to be in consideration due to his remarkable ability to never be out of a tournament. Earlier this year he shot a 10-under 63 in the final round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions chasing down Collin Morikawa.

Rahm currently stands at +1100 which is the second best odds to win the Masters. From 2018-2021 Rahm finished top 10 every year and after a disappointing outing last Masters he will be more determined than ever to claim his second Major.

So, at +1100 is that enough of a return to bet Rahm to win the whole thing? No, similar to Rory there isn’t enough return to make a straight bet to win the whole thing. But, betting him to finish top 10 definitely could make you some money at the right sports book.

Scottie Scheffler

The reigning champion currently stands at +1500 to win the Masters, he was +1600 last year, and will definitely be a hot bet come April. Scheffler is also the reigning PGA Tour Player of The Year exemplifying the outstanding golf he has been playing.

The question you need to ask is when was the last time someone won back-to-back Masters. The answer is Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002 and has only been accomplished two other times by Nick Faldo (1989-90) and Jack Nicklaus (1965-66).

Scottie Scheffler is an outstanding golfer but betting on him to accomplish something Woods, Faldo, and Nicklaus have done seems like a stretch. Save your money and don’t bet Scheffler to win back-to-back Masters.

Best Value Bets

Top 10 Finishers

Sports books currently don’t have Top 10 odds available but will be closer to April. With that said, what players should be considered when the time comes to make some money.

As mentioned early Jon Rahm is definitely worth a bet to finish top 10 due to his track record. Another golfer who will have great odds to finish top 10 is Viktor Hovland, and already has two top 10 finishes this season.

Hovland is still looking for his first major and it may not come this Masters but he always seems to be knocking at the door and will be worth the odds to place in the top 10. One final golfer that will be worth your money for a top 10 finish is Collin Morikawa.

Morikawa already has two majors and is only 26-years-old, and holds 5 PGA Tour victories. Morikawa also has made 86 percent of cuts on the PGA Tour which will hold great value knowing the guy you bet on will most likely make it to the weekend.

First Round Leader

One of the more popular bets due to the fact you can cash in after one day and don’t need to sweat out the entire weekend first round leader needs to be something you look to bet come April.

Sungjae Im was the 2022 Masters first round leader and made the few people who bet on him very rich. Now, a longshot like Im isn’t the most likely outcome but there is definitely a higher chance to cash in on longshots for first round leader than to win the whole tournament.

Guys like Tony Finau, Hideki Matsuyama, and Max Homa are guys that you should look at to win this bet. Sungjae Im’s don’t happen every year and you should look for consistent golfers who aren’t favorites to win the whole thing so you can still extract value if you hit on this bet.

I will be releasing another 2023 Masters Betting Guide closer to April with more up to date odds that dives even deeper, but it’s best to start looking now in order to make money when the tournament finally arrives.
