This weekend, the PGA Tour’s FedExCup playoffs will come to an end with the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. It started with 125 golfers and the Northern Trust, and then the field got trimmed down to 70 for the BMW Championship.
Now the top 30 golfers will battle to see who takes home the FedEx Cup Championship and the $15 million prize. This is the second year they will be using this format of the competitors starting with a score in relation to their position in the FedExCup standings.
Dustin Johnson is playing some of his best golf as of late. He leads the standings and will start the Tour Championship at -10. He is out front and will be hard to catch.
Right behind him will be Jon Rahm at -8. Rahm beat Johnson in a playoff to win the BMW Championship last weekend.
Entering the playoffs, Justin Thomas was leading the standings but didn’t have great outings in the past two tournaments. This allowed Johnson and Rahm to pass him up.
However, he will start at -7, just three shots behind Johnson. He will have a chance to make things interesting if he can close the gap.
Webb Simpson is one of the only golfers that chose not to play in the BMW Championship. He decided to rest up and prepare for this weekend.
It will be interesting to see if that strategy pays off and he can come in well-rested. He starts the tournament at -6.
The rest of the field has some ground to make up, but there are plenty in the field that have the chance to do so. Last year’s champion Rory McIlroy will be starting at -3. If he plays the Tour Championship like he did last year, he may be able to work his way into contention.
