The FedExCup playoffs have ended and next season’s PGA Tour will begin with the Fortinet Championship from September 15-18. However, the biggest event in golf over the next month will be the Presidents Cup.

Over the past few weeks, both the United States and International Teams have announced their captain’s selections for this year’s tournament. This year’s Presidents Cup is scheduled to be held at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

International Captain’s Selections for this Year’s Presidents Cup

The first six members of this year’s International Team at the Presidents Cup were announced in August after the conclusion of the BMW Championship. Those players were Sungjae Im, Hideki Matsuyama, Tom Kim, Corey Conners, Adam Scott, and Mito Pereira.

Joining those players on the International Team are six players chosen by team captain Trevor Immelman. Those six players are K.H. Lee, Si Woo Kim, Taylor Pendrith, Cameron Davis, Christian Bezuidenhout, and Sebastian Munoz.

All of those players have had considerable success on the PGA Tour so far this year. Lee finished 27th at the PGA Tour Championship after finishing tied for fifth at the BMW Championship.

Each player finished within the Top 70 of the FedExCup standings. The International Team has only won one Presidents Cup in the past, but this year’s team will hope to defeat the United States for the first time since 1998.

United States Captain Davis Love III Announces U.S. Captain’s Selections for Presidents Cup

As with the International Team, the United States captain’s selections for this year’s Presidents Cup were announced this week. The captain’s selections will join automatic qualifiers Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Sam Burns, Justin Thomas, and Tony Finau.

Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, Billy Horschel, Cameron Young, and Kevin Kisner were announced as the captain’s selections for this year’s United States team.

The United States has won every Presidents Cup but two since the tournament began, losing in 1998 and tying with the International Team in 2003. The United States defeated the International team 16-14 at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in the most recent edition of the tournament in 2019.

Love’s team will hope to win this year’s tournament, which would give the United States nine consecutive Presidents Cup Tournament wins.

Upcoming Events Over the course of September

In addition to the Presidents Cup, multiple other events will take place over the course of September. LIV Golf held its’ fourth-ever event during the first weekend of September. The event was won by Dustin Johnson.

LIV Golf will hold another event during the same weekend as the Fortinet Championship, September 15-18. The new tour will also hold three further events during the month of October, including LIV Golf’s inaugural team championship in Miami.

The PGA Tour’s season will continue after the Fortinet Championship with the Presidents Cup and the Sanderson Farms Championship, which will take place from September 29 – October 2. In October, the Shriner’s Children Open will begin the month before the ZOZO Championship, the CJ Cup, and the Butterfield Bermuda Championship take place.

The next month of golf will be highlighted by the Presidents Cup, but several important tournaments will take place. While no major events besides the Presidents Cup are scheduled during the next month, LIV Golf and the PGA Tour will continue to compete with each other over the next few months.
