The Masters Contenders
Bryson DeChambeau has the best odds and is the last player to win a major after taking the US Open. He has gained 40 lbs this season and is hitting the ball incredibly hard and straight. At 25 years of age, he is the new face of the PGA for now. He has gained 2.5 strokes in half of his previous 10 tournaments. At 8-1 odds he can still be a good bet and likely the favored.
Dustin Johnson at 9-1 odds is always a bet that can win every week. Since his Covid time off, he appears to now be strong and ready to perform. He is a likely winner.
John Rahm has been shown some love by prediction services that use a computer to spit out the winner. But you still have to perform. At 10-1 odds, he may be a taker but I will pass this year.
Defending champion Tiger Woods at 34-1 is almost never a bad bet. However, his current performances don’t bode well for him to win this again in 2020.
Rory McIlroy would love to pick up the missing piece of his resume which is winning all the major events except the Masters. Hehas shown some good golf with strokes gained in his last five plays At 13-1 he would be a fun play to root for.
The Masters Value Bet
Jordan Spieth is on everyone’s list as a chance to in this event. He has been playing poorly and that is a concern but he has the best per rounds played at Augusta than any other player in the event.
His average finish is 3.8 (T-2, Win, T-2, T-11, T-3); while Nicklaus is 4 (T-15, Win, T-2, Win, Win). Woods trails at 6.6 and Byron Nelson is 7. Spieth is also the only Masters competitor never to finish worse than 11th in any of his first five Masters.
Early in October of 2020, Spieth was quoted as being bullish on DeChambeau. There is nothing wrong with betting on Bryson but I will also bet the 46-1 odds on the quality underdog.
