Tiger Woods Severe Car Accident
Tuesday morning photos surfaced on the internet and social media of a severe single-car accident in Los Angeles. The car was totaled, and after looking at the photo you would question the slim likelihood that the driver or anyone in the vehicle was still alive. Towards the afternoon, reports began to swirl that the driver in the single-car crash was golfing legend Tiger Woods and unfortunately for Woods, the reports were accurate.
“It’s very fortunate that Mr. Woods was able to come out of this alive,” said Carlos Gonzalez, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy.
Tiger Woods severe car accident was devastating to the golf community.
Not only was Woods able to come out of the crash alive, but he was also able to avoid life-threatening injuries.
“Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries,” said Woods agent Mark Steinberg. “He is currently in surgery, and we thank you for your privacy and support.”
When investigating the crash, investigators said that Woods was driving a little faster than he should have been, but there is no evidence of Woods being intoxicated.
“This remains an accident,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said. “Accident is not a crime. They do happen, unfortunately.”
A statement released on Woods twitter states, “he [Woods] has undergone a long surgical procedure on his lower right leg and ankle after being brought to the hospital.”
Dr. Anish Mahajan, Chief Medical Officer and Interim CEO at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, also released a statement via Woods twitter.
“Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopedic to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopaedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Mahajan said. “Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia.”
Why Was Woods in California?
Woods, 45, currently lives in Jupiter Island, Florida, and was in California for a shoot with Golf Digest and Golf TV after he hosted the Genesis Invitational this past weekend. The previous day Woods was seen filming content with NBA legend Dwyane Wade and actor David Spade. Discovery Golf released a statement following the crash.
“Everyone at Discovery and Golf Digest wishes Tiger a speedy recovery, and our thoughts are with him, his family, and his team at this time.”
For Woods, the road to recovery might belong, but he is lucky to be alive. Woods was traveling on a curvy road in Ranchos Palos Verdes, California.

What Was Woods Driving?
At the time the crash was reported and photos surfaced on the internet, the car Woods was driving was unrecognizable. Investigators say Woods was driving a 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV that he was given as a courtesy car from Genesis, the golf tournament sponsor. In a crash so severe, it appears that the SUV saved Woods’ life, and if he was driving a smaller car, the crash could have been fatal.
“Thankfully, the interior was more or less intact, which kind of gave him the cushion to survive what otherwise would have been a fatal crash,” Villanueva said.
Now it remains unclear as too when Woods will be healthy, but he has a long road to recovery. Woods is not expected to return to the golf course anytime soon, and rightfully so. As he has gotten older, Woods has battled multiple back injuries, and this crash comes as yet another blow to Woods’s career. By no means is Woods career over, as we know what happens when we doubt the golfing legend, but it might take a while until we see him return to the course. Woods’s last win came back on April 14, 2019, when Woods won the Masters.
