This golf tournament has always been the Doral in Miami, Florida until this year. Back during the U.S. presidential campaign Donald Trump said some disparaging things about Mexican people and the PGA moved the tournament out of Doral Country Club in Florida, which is owned by Trump, to Mexico.

This course is near Mexico City and is a par 71 course for 7,330 yards. The Mexican Open got its start at Chapultepec in 1944, remaining as host until 1960 when the tournament began rotating sites.

Doral History

We have plenty of history at Doral to use, such as Tiger Woods winning it seven times (also with course record of 261 on a 72 holes) but none of that matters now that they have moved locations.

Very few players have played a tournament at this new location. Look for this to be a one-time affair and back to Florida. Last year Adam Scott was the winner.

Who’s Playing

Dustin Johnson makes his debut for the season at this event along with Rory McIlroy returning from injury. The event has between 50 and 75 golfers expected to take part and hope to garner the 550 points for winning.

Our Golf Betting Pick

This course is a bit higher in altitude than many of the other courses which is a good fit for former #1 golfer Jordan Spieth. We like his game in this contest at 8 to 1 odds. If you are looking for a bit of a longshot be sure to consider Tyrrell Hatton at 40 to 1. He looked like he was on his game last weekend.
