Important Road to the Kentucky Derby points will be up for grabs at Aqueduct on Saturday, as the G2 Remsen Stakes is the seventh race on the card. The field of two-year-olds will compete for over 1 1/8 miles, with a field of seven runners declared.

The race has helped discover high-quality Classic contenders in recent years. That was evident 12 months ago, as Mo Donegal won the Remsen before kicking off his three-year-old season, which led to glory in the G1 Belmont Stakes.

Midnight Trouble- 11/2

Midnight Trouble is the runner for Peter Walder in the race this weekend, and there has certainly been a lot to like about this runner by Midnight Lute over recent months. The distance should be no issue for this two-year-old, as his best performances this term have come over a mile.

The latest of those came in the Rocky Run at Delaware, as he finished second to reappearing rival Tuskagee Airmen. That run scored an Equibase rating of 87, and this further step up in distance should bring better. However, the fact that all his previous efforts have come at Delaware would be a slight concern.

Quick To Accuse- 8/1

I was slightly surprised to see Quick To Accuse at such a big price for this race, as his previous course experience at Aqueduct certainly makes him a key player when it comes to the placings this weekend. The two-year-old was last seen finishing behind Arctic Arrogance in the Sleepy Hollow Stakes at the Belmont at the Big A meet.

That run over a mile scored a speed rating of 83. That was a clear improvement from his maiden-breaking win, which was also scored at Aqueduct. This distance could be perfect for the runner by Accelerate, and I see him as the biggest danger to the pick.

Dubyuhnell- 8/1

Another runner that I feel is at slightly too big of a price this weekend is Dubyuhnell, for trainer Danny Gargan. This two-year-old is by Good Magic, and has already had previous winning experience at Aqueduct.

His victory over a mile at the track last month was a fine return to form after finishing fourth on debut, as he scored a rating of 78. This step up in distance looks perfect for him this weekend, and it is no bad thing to have Jose Ortiz on board, who previously won the Remsen with Leave The Light On in 2014.

Remsen Stakes Pick: Arctic Arrogance- 7/4

The classiest, and most exciting horse in this field looks to be Arctic Arrogance for Linda Rice. He was a fine winner on debut at Saratoga in September, reaching a rating of 80, and he has improved with every showing since then. His previous experience at Aqueduct could be vital this weekend, having finished first and second on his previous two efforts.

The most recent of those came when winning the Sleepy Hollow Stakes, which saw him reach a rating of 90 over a mile. That form sets the standard here, and the draw has been hugely beneficial toward his chance.
