10-4-3-2-1 point system respectively.

Jerome Stakes 2023 History

The Jerome Stakes was named after  Leonard W. Jerome, the grandfather of Winston Churchill and the founder of the old Jerome Park Racetrack in The Bronx. The Jerome is the second oldest stakes race in the United States behind the Travers Stakes.

Some notable horses that saw the winners circle at the Jerome Stakes who also won the Derby  include: Aristides in 1875. Bold Ruler in 1957, in 1960, Kelso was the winner and the following year it was Carry Back. The most recent was Fusaichi Pegasus in 2000.

The Jerome was first run at Jerome Park from 1866 to 1889, then at Morris Park Racecourse until 1905, at Belmont Park from 1906 to 1959 and 1968 to 2009, and also at Aqueduct Racetrack in 1960, from 1962 to 1967 and from 2011 to the present. There was no race run from 1910 to 1913 and there were two divisions from 1866 to 1870. Since inception it has been contested at a variety of distances.

Last years winner was Courvoisier owned by Hill n’ Dale Farms and James D. Spry. The horse was ridden by Jose Ortiz and trained by Kelly Breen. The time was 1:38:86.

Jerome Stakes 2023 Odds and Entries

The Jerome is scheduled as race 8 of 10 with post time set for 4:14 p.m. EST.

Neural Network is the son of Cloud Computing and is trained by Chad Brown. This horse won his debut in the Big A in November by five lengths. Odds to win the Jerome Stakes is 3-1. Great post draw and can hang close. Possible winner.

Circling the Drain is a Maryland gelding that is trained by Brittany Russell and is 10-1 odds to win. This horse got second in his debut at Laurel Park. However, was an easy seven length winner in a field of maiden claimers.

Valenzan Day comes in at 8-1 odds and is trained by Linda Rice. This Florida bred horse has had it ups and downs with a win in his first start. Then a third in the Tremont followed be  non competitive races in the Sanford and Saratoga Special. Valenzan Day. Now he will try graded stakes races again and stretch out to a mile. Look at this horse as a long shot.

Lugan Knight is the son of Goldencents and is from Kentucky where trained by Michael McCarthy. He is 4-1 odds to win the Jerome Stakes. He broke his maiden at Keeneland  after a second place finish at Churchill Downs in September. This horse has some chance to win.

Andiamo a Firenze is trained by Kelly Breen and is 6-1 odds to win. The son of Speightstown was a debut winner at Belmont Park in June.  He has been in two graded stakes race previously and with a third in the G# Sanford and a fourth in the one mile Champagne. In recent times, he lost by a nose at the New York Breeders’ Futurity which was held at Finger Lakes. Use this horse down on the card. The horse name in Italian means “let’s go to Florence”.

Arctic Arrogance comes in with 2-1 odds to win the Jerome Stakes . This is another Linda Rice trained horse. The horse is the son of Frosted and New York bred. Arctic Arrogance broke his maiden in his first attempt back in September and also won the Sleepy Hollow. He entered the Derby  by racing in the Remsen where he lost by half a length but picked up points. This horse is well trained to run a mile and should be considered as a contender.

General Banker is the son of Central Banker and trained by James Ferraro. He didn’t break his maiden until his eighth attempt in a seven furlong at Aqueduct. This is the first race in an open company stakes race. At 10-1 odd this one doesn’t look to bode well.

Narciso Dali is the son of Tamrkuz and has 15-1 odds to win. He needed six races to break his maiden. This horse lack speed to compete.
