The Ohio Derby is hosted just outside of Cleveland at the Thistledown Racino for a Grade 3 stakes race. Two horses from the 2018 Kentucky Derby, Flameaway, and Lone Sailor, have entered this race and will be horses to watch. Last season, Irap won this event with Givin finishing second and Untrapped claiming third place.

This will be Race 9 on the Saturday card and is scheduled to run at 5:10 ET with 12 horses entered in the 1 ⅛ mile race.

Let’s take a brief look at each horse in the race and their odds to win:

Flameaway is a son of Scat Daddy and is listed with 5-2 odds to win. He won his last Grade 3 race and has finished well at Gulfstream Park, Tampa Derby, and Woodbine. However, he was thirteenth in the Kentucky Derby in May.

One of the contenders in this race is Lone Sailor. He is listed with 3-1 odds to win and was eighth in the previous Kentucky Derby and fifth in the Preakness. He is the son of Majestic Warrior and will look good in a Grade 3 stakes race.

A serious challenger in the Ohio Derby is Core Belief at 5-1 odds. The son of Quality Road has always finished in the money and that is likely to continue. He lost to Justify and Bolt d’Oro in the Santa Anita Derby. He will set the pace in this race and could be one of the favorites.

Diamond King is the son of Quality Road and is 6-1 to win the Ohio Derby. This horse really stunk it up at the Preakness and Justify left him behind in the rain and fog. He has some speed and has a chance on a good day.

Title Ready comes into this race from the Asmussen barn with 10-1 odds to win. He was fourth in the Rebel Stakes and lost by six furlongs to Magnum Moon. Look for this horse to get in front early and pace the rest.

Others To Run:

Trigger Warning 12-1
O’Kratos 12-1
Dream Baby Dream 15-1

Machismo 20-1

Takedown 20-1
Last Drop of Wine 30-1
Caloric 30-1

My Picks: Core Beliefs at 5/1, Lone Sailor 3/1, Diamond King at 6/1, Flameaway 5/2
