This is the closing horse racing weekend at the spa and with it comes the Woodward Stakes. This is a Grade 1 race with a $750,000 purse.

Here are the horses for the 2019 Woodward Stakes:

Mr. Buff (20-1) This horse is good enough for a Grade 1 race. He may begin the pace but will not be near the winner at the finish.

Bal Harbour (15-1) This is a Todd Plether horse and our longshot in this race. Distance may proved to be the downfall in this race.

Vino Rosso (7-2) This son of Curlin is always a threat to win but also was a major disappointment at the Whitney. In its last workout, this Pletcher horse looked sharp. Contender status for this horse.

Mongolian Groom (12-1) This horse has looked good on the west coast. Things are a bit different at Saratoga. It is not out of the question for this horse to finish in the money.

Preservationist (4-1) Although good odds come from this horse, its abiity to stay consisent is an issue. This is a new track and that is a concern for the son of Arch. Out of the money.

Forewarned (30-1) The horse has had little success. This 4-year-old can compete for part of the race. No chance.

Yoshida (2-1) This horse loves to run at Saratogaand the last five races prove it. Last year he beat Gunnerva at the Woodward with 20-1 odds. This one could win this race.

Wooderson (10-1) has had one good race out of the previous three. Slight chance to get in the money.

Tom’s d’Etat (7-2) This is our pick to win. This horse is 3-for-3 at the Spa. Look for him to sit just behind the pace and finish on top. The 6-year-old continues to win and is consider lightly raced. WINNER

Final Thoughts:

Tom’s d’Etat with Yoshida and Vino Rosso re our top three picks to box.
