FanDuel Sportsbook recently announced a deal with the United Center, and a sportsbook lounge is a part of this partnership. The United Center is home to both the Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Bulls, and each team is part of the agreement with FanDuel.

Now that the partnership has been announced, the parties will have to submit a request for a license with the Illinois Gaming Board. It’s unclear how quickly a license will be approved, but FanDuel has plans to open up a non-wagering space until sports betting can be offered.

The United Center is one of the professional sports stadiums in the state that is able to apply for a master sports wagering license as it meets the capacity requirements. This was included in the original bill to legalize sports betting that was passed back in 2019, but no such sports betting lounge has opened up at this time.

The city of Chicago just recently passed an amendment that allowed this type of sports betting to occur within the city limits. Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf was lobbying for this change as he had a deal like this in the works.

The new FanDuel sportsbook lounge will cover two stories at the United Center and will be located adjacent to the atrium. The non-wagering space will allow fans to watch live sporting events while all parties wait to get official word from the IGB.

DraftKings Coming to Wrigley Field

The Chicago Cubs and DraftKings were the first partnership in Illinois, as this deal was announced back in September 2020. The Cubs and DraftKings have still not applied for a license with the IGB, but it appears that construction might begin soon.

Cubs owner Tom Ricketts originally announced plans for a 22,000 square foot retail sportsbook lounge that will cover two stories. The team just recently made plans to move a pair of statues outside of the stadium to begin planning and construction of that sportsbook lounge.

If all goes according to plan, the Cubs could open up the sportsbook lounge before the start of the 2023 season.

Bears, BetRivers Still Working

The Chicago Bears have named BetRivers as their official sports betting partner, allowing for a retail sportsbook to be established at Soldier Field. This partnership has not yet applied for a license with the IGB, though, and Soldier Field might not even be the Bears’ home in the future.

The Bears are not happy with their current agreement at Soldier Field, and they have explored purchasing Arlington Park Race Track from Churchill Downs. BetRivers will remain the online sports betting partner even if there is a move, and that location could then have a retail sportsbook when a new stadium is built.
