It’s been a long eleven weeks for advocates of sports betting in Michigan. With the issues that were working as an impediment to sports betting solved, it will officially launch on Wednesday, March 11. The Michigan Gaming Control Board announced the launch date on Friday, March 6.
According to the official announcement, the first bets can be placed at 1:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday. Three casinos in Detroit will offer sports betting through their own sportsbooks. There will be a board meeting on Tuesday, that was previously scheduled. It will be at this Tuesday meeting that final approval for sports betting will be granted according to a board source.
The date of the launch is about three months after sports betting was passed into law in Michigan, it’s also just in time for March Madness which starts on March 17th. Michigan’s Gaming Control Board Executive Director Richard Kalm, gave some additional information about the process.
