New Hampshire residents are excited to ring in the New Year, but before that happens – Sports Betting is legalized and available on Monday. s nearby Massachusetts has not given the green light to legalize sports betting, it’s expected that many people there will cross over state lines to make the sports wagers. The New Hampshire Lottery Commission will be in charge of sports betting, residents will be able to place bets on sports teams at casinos and online.

New Hampshire’s Governor Chris Sununu a Republican signed a sports betting bill earlier this year. The new law allows sports betting in 10 physical locations and online and on mobiles devices. In November the New Hampshire Lottery Commission entered into a contract with DraftKings to be their official sports betting provider.

Some Of The Sports Betting Profits Are  Slated For The New Hampshire School System

Under the contract signed with DraftKings, some of the profits from sports betting will be utilized by the education system in the state. The contract allows the state lottery commission to receive half of the sports betting profits. The Monday launch will start with online and mobile device sports betting. All players must register for an account and be at least 18 years of age.

Many people have wondered if mobile sports betting is limited to a certain geographical area and how that is possible. Gaming officials in New Hampshire said players must physically located in New Hampshire when they place a sports bet. The officials said the software is able to detect where someone is located very similar to a cell phone’s ability to track location.

New Hampshire Lottery officials explained on Thursday that the physical locations to place sports bets will be up and running in early 2020. They further explained that sometime in 2020 sports bets will be able to be placed in retail locations where lottery tickets are purchased. In the state of New Hampshire the availability of sports betting was decided in each city by voters. Not all cities and towns in the state will have sports betting.

In The Spring Of 2020 New Hampshire Voters Will Decide If More Towns & Cities Will Be Added

Thus far, the cities or towns that will have legalized sports betting are, Franklin, Laconia, Manchester, Berlin, Claremont and Somersworth. The towns that did not elect to have sports betting are Dover, Nashua, Concord and Rochester. Voters will be going to the polls in the Spring of 2020, and the sports betting bill will again be on the ballot in cities that initially didn’t pass it. According to an official press release by DraftKings, Governor Chris Sununu will be a launch ceremony on Monday.

The Governor will appear at Shoppers Pub and Eatery at Indian Head in Manchester. Organizers say it will be a fun event, in addition to Sununu and a DraftKings official, former New England Patriots player Rob Nickovich will also be on hand. At the event, players will be able to register for a sports betting account with DraftKings.
