SugarHouse Casino has announced that it is rebranding as Rivers Casino Philadelphia later in the year. The facility’s parent company, Rush Street Gaming, broke the news during a meeting with officials from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board last week.

The name change is intended to bring the property in line with other Rush Street Gaming properties; Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, Rivers Casino Des Plaines in Illinois, and Rivers Casino and Resort Schenectady in New York.

Speaking about the rebrand, SugarHouse Casino and Rush Street Gaming CEO Greg Carlin said that creating a unified brand would help the company to respond better to competition within the gaming market.

The property is also set to undergo a series of upgrades before the relaunch.

Facility to spend $15 million on upgrades

Rush Street Gaming has also announced that SugarHouse Casino will go through a series of renovations before the change of name. The changes to the facility will be carried out by local companies and contractors, and the major refurbishment will cost over $15 million.

The upgraded Rivers Casino Philadelphia will feature a new world-class permanent sportsbook, a new state-of-the-art restaurant, and a new online casino to complement the land-based offering.

The addition of an online casino coincides with the rollout of online gambling in Pennsylvania, which is scheduled to take place in mid-July. However, it is not apparent whether the platform will be ready to launch by this time.

Rush Street Gaming to benefit from operating one brand

Pennsylvania is set to launch interactive gaming next month, and Rush Street Gaming is preparing to roll out online casino operations at its Philadelphia and Pittsburgh properties.

The company intends to launch a single online casino app to represent both facilities, and the platform will be licensed under SugarHouse Casino.

With the heavy taxes on table and slots games and high license fee, operating a united online casino will be of great benefit to the company. It will also be easier and cheaper for the company to market a single brand across various channels and markets.

Besides, the integration will provide players at the two Rush Street casinos with a seamless experience in online gambling.

However, the firm did not confirm if the online casino would use the playsugarhouse.com app, or if they would rebrand to another name.

Rivers Casino Pittsburgh to launch online sports betting

Rush Street Gaming is also planning to strengthen their footing in the Pennsylvania sports betting market with the launch of an online sportsbook at Rivers Pittsburgh Casino. The Rivers Pittsburgh sports betting app is scheduled to go live in a few weeks, and there are speculations that it will be called BetRivers.

This will be the second Rush Street mobile betting app in the Quaker State after the launch of SugarHouse Online Sportsbook PA late last month. The sportsbook began accepting wagers officially on May 31, following a three-day operational test period required by the state’s Gaming Control Board.

Just like the PlaySugarHouse app, Rivers Casino online sportsbook will be operated by Rush Street Interactive, and it will run on Kambi’s top-notch sports betting platform.
