The PLL gave us so much talented in 2022, that some went unnoticed. Tommy Burch gives his most underrated players, and why they deserve more respect.

PLL All-Underrated Team 2022

This PLL season went down as one of the best professional Lacrosse seasons in history. The ups and downs, the power struggle, and the eventual winners, we saw teams and players emerge out of the shadows and end up in stardom.

However, some players didn’t leave the shadows. Some of the most talented players in the PLL, despite their play, were not given the respect they deserve. That’s why I took the top 4 underrated players and gave them the prestige they deserve.

Attack – Kieran McArdle

The fact that McArdle was not considered more seriously for the league MVP is atrocious. He was not in the top 4 for MVP voting, even while being the second-highest-scoring player in the league. He carried a bad early-season Waterdogs team to compete for a real spot in the playoffs.

He was in contention for attackman of the year but managed to lose that as well. He led the entire PLL in assists and still landed No. 6 in goals scored. The fact that Lyle Thompson was in contention with his team going 1-9 over McArdle is disgusting.

Midfield – Dhane Smith

Smith was stuck in the NLL playoffs but made his way over to the PLL once the season ended. In only 7 games played, he managed to be a centerpiece of the Chaos offense, playing quarterback for a team that found their way to the PLL championship.

Smith scored only 6 goals on the year, but his 17 assists brought his point total to 23. He was No. 6 in the league in assists, and with a full season of PLL play, he may have ended up as no. 1.

Defense – Eddy Glazener

Yes, he was a PLL all-star in 2021, but his season in 2022 was arguably better. His play for the Woods was essential in their success, and he has improved every year in the PLL to get to that point.

Every year since entering the league, he has caused more turnovers per game than the year before. His steady increase from just over half a turnover a game to finally reaching more than one per game in 2022, while also hitting double digits in total caused turnovers.

Not only this, but he was prolific from the 2-point line. He went 2 of 6 from 2, shooting 40% with 4 points on the year. His shots were also made in crucial moments, especially when he ripped one on transition in Fairfield.

Goalie – Nick Marrocco

Statistically, he was not very impressive. However, most other goalies would have had a much more difficult time with the defense he had to maintain. His defense was statistically the worst in the league, giving up the most scores against average and total.

However, Morocco managed to be 3rd in the league in saves, despite only a 50% save percentage. He was getting shot at more than anyone else on the list, and still held brick wall status.
