The PLL All-Star Draft was aired yesterday, with captains Trevor Baptise and Connor Farrell leading the charge. As the selections were made and players started falling off the board, I noticed something interesting.

As the 5th and 6th picks were made, I saw that the PLL’s top points scorer, Will Manny, still sat in the draft pool untouched. As the picks hit 13, I was in awe of who was picked before him. Ignoring the captain’s regular-season teammates, 5 players were selected over him with 3 being offensive players. Even his own teammate, Marcus Holman, was selected over him.

Looking at it now, I wonder if Manny is getting the respect he deserves. The star attackman for the Archers has proved his worth over the course of the season, yet still gets overlooked by a large number of the fanbase. He is one of the best offensive players and shooters in the league right now, with a silk-smooth game that emulates a Tim Duncan. Seeing him now, his season is starting to replicate that of Duncan’s, getting overlooked and lacking the respect he has earned.

The Case for Will Manny

Statistically, Will Manny is an absolute nightmare. He leads the league in points scored and 1 pt goals while following closely in 2nd for assists. He is the only player in the league with over 20 points, and he sits atop his throne with 22.

He is also close to the top of the league in shot percentage, which is incredible while looking at his scoring numbers. His 40% is 22nd in the league and 9th at his position, showing his absolute dominance in the sport. However, his play gets overlooked by fans and the press alike, and even the PLL bettors are doubting him.

Will Manny

Overlooked

Manny is the leading scorer in the PLL, the goals scored leader, and in the running for assists leader too. This stat line is almost the PLL equivalent of the NFL’s triple crown, where a wide receiver leads the league in catches, yards, and touchdowns.

Yet, despite owning his opposition and leading the Archers to be the best offense in the league, bettors still disrespect him. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Manny is in 4th place for MVP betting odds. Although you may think this is a respectable spot, think again.

Manny is not the only attackman in the top 4. Actually, he’s one of three. The two attackmen above him are Jeff Teat and Lyle Thompson. Teat is holding it down with 19 points on the season and ranking 2nd in the league, with Thompson in a close third with 18.

This is where I face my dilemma. Teat is a respectable player, but his own teammate Trevor Baptiste sits at second in the MVP odds. Thompson has no right to be ahead of Manny, with his team ranking almost last in the league and his offense suffering while he stands out. Although his play is elite, it’s a diamond in the rough, with his offense revolving completely around him and his scoring.

Manny deserves to be at least No. 3 in MVP odds, if not No. 2. I still think Baptise is the league MVP, but a player leading the league in two major categories that the people ranked above him can’t touch is ridiculous. Will Manny needs his respect and deserves multiple MVP votes.
