The Atlanta Braves are set to take on the New York Mets in some Sunday afternoon baseball. In what will lend itself to a tremendous pitching matchup, the Mets are the favorites in this one at -1.5 according to most sportsbooks.
Atlanta comes into this game with a 50-34 record. They have excelled both at home and on the road, with 26-17 being a respectable record away from home. To their credit, the Mets have a decent record as the favorite. With a 37-47 record overall, they have a 24-22 mark when favored. At home, they are 20-16.
As the underdog, the Braves have a 9-14 record. They will certainly need to play better in that role if they want to win on Sunday.
In the last 10 games between these two teams, Atlanta has the advantage in runs with 5.10. The Mets have the advantage in hits with 9.00 and walks with 4.20. The Braves have collected more strikeouts with 9.50 in this rivalry.
Fried tries to continue success
On the bump for Atlanta Sunday will be Max Fried. On the year, he has a 9-3 record with a 3.96 ERA.
In his last time out against the Chicago Cubs on June 25, he picked up the win. In six innings of work, he gave up two hits and two earned runs while striking out eight and walking five on 90 pitches.
The Mets have had decent success against Fried, posting a .271 batting average. The batter who has had the most achievement against him is Jeff McNeil. In five at-bats, McNeil has three hits, including two doubles. That equals out to a .600 batting average.
Ahmed Rosario is another hitter who has seen Fried quite a bit. In seven at-bats, he has two hits and four runs batted in. He has seemed to struggle a bit, as he has also tallied for strikeouts against Fried.
Syndergaard looks to dominate
Noah Syndergaard looks to win his third start in a row when he takes the mound on Sunday. In his last time out against the St. Louis Cardinals on June 15, he pitched six innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs while striking out five batters. On 102 pitches, he truly gave it his best effort.
The win improved his record to 5-4 on the year and raised his ERA to 4.55.
There are some Atlanta Braves who have seen him well. Dansby Swanson is one of them. In 11 at-bats, he has five hits and one run batted in. Nick Markakis has also had success against the elite pitcher. In 17 at-bats, he has seven hits, including a double. With a run batted in and two walks, he has certainly managed to get on base. For his efforts, he has a .412 batting average.
I would bet the New York Mets in this one with Syndergaard on the mound. Even though he has had a down year, he is still one of the most electrifying pitchers in the game. This should be a great game, and I would certainly make sure to take New York.
