Baty or Vientos for 2022

If either of Vientos and/or Baty are in the Opening Day, means the Mets failed the free agency signings or they have a lot of faith in them.

If either of Vientos and/or Baty are in the Opening Day, means the Mets failed the free agency signings or they have a lot of faith in them.

Brett Baty(#45 MLB) and Mark Vientos(#6 Mets’ organization) are projected to see action in 2022 at some point, especially since Vientos will be added to the 40-man roster because he’s rule 5 eligible this winter and Baty had a really good 2021.

Who makes his debut first?

Mark Vientos, 22, a right-handed batter, drafted in the 2nd round of 2017 MLB draft, as SS now converted to be a third baseman with experience at 1B and Left Field, had a breakout season in 2021 with .933 ops in AA and AAA after struggling in 2019 with .711 ops.

Mark Vientos found success this year for being more patient at the plate by raising his BB% from 4.8% in 2019 to 8.5% in 2021 and hitting the ball HARD, which show an improvement in his BABIP( Batting Average on Balls in play) having a .311 in 2019 to .327(AA) and .350(AAA) he was putting the ball in the field more frequently.

Vientos had and.SLG of 581 and his ISO( Isolated power) raised from .156 in 2019 to .299 in AA and .306 he was a lot of extra bases this year for comparison his ISO was better than Joey Votto, Vladimir Guerrero, and George Springer.

Now he punishes when he makes contact with the ball, however, his K% over 28% this year shows some concerns about his ability to make contact consistently. He would be 2nd in K% on the Mets over J.D Davis(32.2%).

Brett Baty, 21, a left-handed batter, drafted 12th in the draft of 2019 wasted no time to show his improvement from 2019 since not being able to play the whole of 2020, going from a .775 ops to .855 this year between High-A, Double AA and the Arizona fall league.

he’s not only more patient at the plate than Vientos but he can strike out less, he profiles more as a gap-hitter than a power-hitter like Vientos, the difference in ISO is quite big .204 was the highest for Baty .95 points lower.

Vientos takes the spot.

Between both whos more projected to have a better future at the MLB it’s Brett Baty with his hitting tools, but as right now the more ‘’MLB ready’’ is Mark Vientos after playing in AA and AAA this year but also that he will be added to the 40-man so the Mets can’t avoid losing him for free in the Rule-5 draft in December.

I don’t think Vientos will be the Mets’ third basemen for the future since he’s profiled to be a below-average defender at third, he has a good arm possibly a transition to the outfield it’s definitely something to watch in his future with the team unless he improves.
