The Braves take on the Phillies in the second game of this mid-week series. No worries, our Braves vs Phillies picks are ready!

Atlanta took the opening game 9-5 that saw the Braves stars produce three solo shots. Ronald Acuna shined with a home run, single, double, and three RBI.

Philadelphia got production from its big-time hitters but it just wasn’t enough. Bryce Harper and J.T Realmuto had their own solo shots but Aaron Nola allowed four runs on seven hits in just five innings of work.

The Braves currently sit at second in the National League East behind the New York Mets by 2.5 games and Philadelphia follows just behind them at four games back of the Mets.

The two ball clubs have faced off ten times this season, splitting the season series at five apiece. The Braves took the last series at home back in early May.

Pitching

The Phillies will put Zach Eflin on the mound who has a 2-5 record on the year with a 4.10 ERA. Eflin’s home ERA is significantly better at 2.25 along with a 1-1 record.

Braves vs Phillies Zach Eflin

The right-hander has pitched well against the Braves with a 2-1 record and a 2.33 ERA, pitching close to seven innings in every game.

Eflin has been struggling lately, losing his last four outings on the mound giving up six or more hits. His .272 batting average is a little higher than normal for the 27-year-olds sixth year in the league.

Eflin has been able to get his on-base percentage at the lowest it’s ever been at .292.

On the other side, it’s Tucker Davidson for the Braves. Davidson has started two other games for Atlanta this season with neither producing a decision for him.

The 25-year-old has a 2.31 ERA in his two outings on the mound with 10 strikeouts. The Braves had an open spot in the back of their rotation and for no Davidson filled that role.

This is the left-handers first time facing Atlanta. The pitching staff for the Braves determined that he might deserve some more chances in the majors.

“The two starts that we’ve seen, he deserves a crack at this thing,” manager Brian Snitker said. “So we’ll keep running with him for a while. He’s earned another chance.”

Davidson has gotten good reports back during his young career in the major leagues. Snitker and teammates have commended his poise and maturity.

Davidson’s slider, which has made a real difference for him as part of a three-pitch mix, is what has kept him afloat in the Braves rotation.

My Pick

This has been a back and forth series all year long with the Phillies getting the early sweep but the Braves continuing to pick up steam getting into the summer months.

Tucker Davidson showed that he might have a future in the MLB with a strong performance against the Nationals just a week ago. Tucker gave up only one hit with zero earned runs and five strikeouts.

The Phillies lineup is a different animal as you can see from where the teams are in the division (Nationals are in the last place). I just think that the star power will be too much for a young pitcher.

Davidson gave up five hits and three earned runs to a Mets team that has struggled to find offense for much of the season. Philadelphia has also hit better against lefties than righties this season with a .253 average compared to a .230 batting average.

Eflin has been struggling in his past few starts but I think the Phillies do enough damage early on that it won’t matter.

The Phillies were leading going into the fifth inning before a huge surge from the Braves that put them over the top in that game.

This series has been even and I see no reason why the two teams don’t have a rubber match going into tomorrow.
