Cardinals Prospect – Juan Yepez

Cardinals prospect Juan Yepez in s 23 years of age and is 6’1″ and 200 lbs. and is currently listed as an outfielder/first baseman. He was originally signed by the Braves for $1m at the age of 16 out of Venezuela.

In his first season in the minor leagues, he was hurt and missed three months of the season. In 2017, he came to the Cardinals in exchange for Matt Adams.He head a good season in 2019 after  bulking up an losing some weight. In Peoria at Low-A ball he hit .415 in 28 games before he was moved up. He combined at three levels that season at .269.

In 2021, at AA-Springfield and AA- Memphis he combined for 106 games, 349 at-bats, 97 hit which included 25 home runs and 74 RBI’s. He walked 47 times and fanned 97 at-bats.

 

At the plate, he is a gap hitter with high exit velocity. the Cardinals organization expect the power to come and are increasingly pleased with his progress in learning the strike zone. Originally a third baseman, he was moved to the outfield where he performed well with an average arm. His future may be a a first baseman in the major league. He is a good prospect for a future trade.  His ETA  to the Major leagues may be next year in some capacity.
