Cardinals Prospect Report and Game Notes for 4/16/18

Baseball, MLB article at Knup Sports

Today, we have a Prospect Feature and examine the Memphis Redbirds as to how they fare in stats in the Pacific Coast League.

The Cardinals, after winning four in a row, have their game canceled at Wrigley Field in Chicago due to very cold weather. GAME CANCELED! It will become part of a day-night doubleheader on July 21st.

Prospect # 11 Randy Arozarena

He was signed in 2016 out of Cuba. Prior to that, he spent two year s playing in the Cuban National Series. In 2014, he defected to the United States and basically had to sit out a year. In 2016, he played a few games in Mexico and then he was signed by the Cardinals and began playing baseball after an almost two-year absence. He played in Palm Beach and Springfield last year and had a very good season.

Arozarena is 5’11” and 175 lbs and many believe he is a five-tool player. Currently, the Cardinals have about five really good centerfielders in the organization so it is difficult to project the path to the majors for him. With that said, I believe he can be part of the Cardinals major league squad this year and very likely in 2019.

Here is a video of him getting an infield triple. You got to love the hustle!

The Memphis Redbirds are currently (written before Monday’s game) 9-2 on the season and in first place in the Pacific Coast League American Southern. Nashville is second at 5-6, New Orleans has a 4-7 record for third place and Round Rock is fourth and is 3-8 for the year.

In League batting, Tyler O’Neill is 8th with a .410 average and Max Schrock is 11th batting .386. Also in the Top 25, we find Oscar Mercado at .361 for 22nd and Adolis Garcia 24th with a .351 average.

Leading the league in RBI’s is Tyler O’Neill with 14 and Patrick Wisdom is in 3rd place with 12 runs batted in. The team is 2nd in batting average with a .311 average. Memphis leads the league in stolen bases at 16.

In team pitching, there aren’t many stats to deal with yet as we find the Redbirds are 3rd in ERA at 3.31 and lead the league in fewest walks allowed with 30.

The average attendance at AutoZone Park this season is 5,783.
