College Baseball 2023 Countdown #21
College Baseball 2023 finds the North Carolina TarHeels at #21. Last season UNC won the ACC Tournament and hosted regionals and look to build on the success from that season. Head coach Scott Forbes will have a few tough pieces to replace via graduation and the draft. All-American outfielder Vance Honeycutt returns from a 35 home runs and 29 stolen bases season. Returning is Mac Harvath and Alberto Osuna to leading the hitters.
On the mound, the Tar Heels leaned on the 1-2 punch of Brandon Schaeffer and Max Carlson in the rotation and a deep, talented bullpen. Carlson is back to lead the rotation, but new pitchers will have to step up in 2023.
Some of the key newcomers include LHP Nelson Berkwich from Vanderbilt along with RHP Michael Colonna and RHP Matthew Matthijs.
Opening weekend takes place Feb, 17-19 in Chapel Hill at Bryson Field where they entertain a series with Seton Hall.
