College Baseball Countdown #18- Maryland Terrapins

The Maryland Terrapins are looked at as the best team in the Big Ten this year. The conference is primarily a cold weather area and many time it is difficult to get any notice on quality baseball.

Head coach Rob Vaughn has completed five years at the helm and has amassed a 141- 96 record and is excited for the future for Maryland as they won their first ever Big Ten title in 2022 finishing with a 48-14 overall record.

This year the year the hopes are high with All-American pitcher Jason Savacool and pitcher David Falco and pitcher Nick Dean making up a quality rotation. Lefty Andrew Johnson may get more time on the mound this year. Also returning is catcher Luke Shliger and his .353 batting average along with infielders Nick Lorusso, Kevin Keister and Matt Shaw. In the outfield, Bobby Zmarziak is back from a solid season.

Many newcomers will be ready to take spots such as outfielder Elijah Lambros and 5th year player Matt Woods. Lefthander Andrew Brock from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy and fellow lefty Kyle McCoy from New Jersey want to round out the full rotation.

The Terps open the season on the road on February 17-19 in Tampa where they take on University of Southern Florida. The home opener in College Park is February 21 against West Virginia.
