NOTE: Tyler O’Neill has been promoted to the major leagues.
You know what would suck? To drive to Chicago on Wednesday to watch the Cardinals/Cubs. Even worse would be on a bus trip for that game. 🙂
The Cardinals at Chicago Cubs game for Wednesday was postponed due to cold weather and wet conditions. They will play on Thursday afternoon. It will feature two youngsters with Luke Weaver vs Jon Lester.
Minor League Results
Memphis Redbirds postponed due to weather conditions in Omaha. They will play 2 7-inning games on Thursday with game 1 at 5:05 pm.
Springfield Cardinals- off-day
Did You Know? 17 Springfield Cardinals are ranked in the Top 30 Prospects.

SOME SPRINGFIELD STATS
Since they don’t play today, I thought I would enlighten you with some of their stats so far this season. The Springfield Cardinals are 6-6 on the season and in second place in the Texas League North. The team leads their league in batting average at .277 and are second in home runs with 18. The club doesn’t run much and is near the bottom of the league with five.
The pitching staff is 6th of 8 in ERA at 4.73 and 3rd in most hits allowed which are 100. Sadly, they are last in strikeouts by pitchers with 83 (131 leads the league). Chris Ellis leads the league in saves.
Individual batting finds Lane Thomas paving the way as he is 3rd in batting average at .391, second in RBI’s with 10, first in doubles with 6, and first in slugging percentage at .848. Andrew Knizner is fourth in batting stroking a .379 batting average, John Nogowski is 14th at .333, Tommy Edman comes in at twentieth with a .310 average.

ALMOST ON THE RADAR
From time to time I will feature a player that is not on the Top 30 list that is worthy of a look because they are playing well.
Juan Yepez is currently playing third base in Low-A Peoria. He is 20 years old, 6’1″,200 lbs from Caracas Venezuela. The Cardinals acquired him in May 2017 from the Atlanta Braves organization in the Matt Adams trade. He played 80 games last season in Peoria and hit .280 and led them to the playoffs.
This year he is tearing up the pitching early in the season. He was named Midwest League Player of the Week April 5-15. He is the first Peoria Chief to garner this award since Harrison Bader in 2015.
Currently, he is batting .485 in 33 at-bats with 16 hits, which include 3 doubles, 2 triples, and one home run. He has 12 RBI’s and 26 total bases (leads the league) with six walks and has fanned five times.
It is difficult to project when a player will get a promotion but since he played 80 games in Peoria last year and is there again, it is probably time to move him to Palm Beach if they can find playing time for him.

Memphis will play a doubleheader today after they were canceled yesterday. Jack Flaherty starts the first game at 5:05 and the second game hurler hasn’t been announced.

Palm Beach sends Mike O’Reilly for a 6:35 start in Bradenton.
Peoria will send Jake Walsh (1-0, 2.31 ERA) to the mound for a 6:35 start at Quad Cities.
Dominican Summer League Cardinals begin on June 4 (estimated start)
State College starts on June 15
Johnson City has their opener on June 19
