You can feel it in the air; it is almost time for October baseball. The MLB playoffs are quickly approaching, but who is going to win it all? One team is going to win the World Series, and one division will be represented.
You can judge a division by the All-Star Game, but it is much easier to judge the best division by who wins the World Series. Let’s take a look at which decision has the best chance to win it all this year.
American League
I truly think there is only one team with a legitimate shot from the American League to win the World Series. No matter how you feel about them, the Houston Astros have the best chance to win the World Series from this division.
Houston has a 93-50 record, which leads the AL. They are likely going to be the lone 100-win team in the division, with a stacked offense and an insane pitching rotation led by soon-to-be Cy Young winner Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez, who has a sick name. The Astros have the best odds in the division and the second best in all of baseball at +425.
Do you remember a few months ago when the New York Yankees were supposed to be the winningest team of all time? That quickly changed, but they are finally figuring things back out in the AL East. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games and may be the thorn in Houston’s dream season. The Yankees’ odds continue to improve as they currently sit at +500. It does not hurt to have Aaron Judge on the team.
The Astros and the Yankees are the only teams that have a shot to win the World Series from the AL. Seattle’s miracle season has been fun, but they will not win a title. Both the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays are intriguing and could make the World Series, but will not win it.
National League
We saved the best for last here. The National League is going to produce a team that will win the World Series this season. They are deep, they are talented and they are due for a ring.
Let’s start with the elephant in the room. The Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorites in all of baseball to win a ring. With their star-studded offense, nasty pitching staff and large payroll, they have the best odds to win it all. Sitting with a 98-44 record, they have won double the games they have lost and have +360 odds to win it all which is crazy. We could end the article here and you would know the NL has the best odds to win it all.
Next, we will talk about the NL East. The New York Mets have an 89-55 record but are slumping as of late. Nonetheless, they are the biggest competition to the Dodgers. It is strange to think of the Mets as the best team in New York, but that is the case. Their offense is top-five in all of baseball, and they have a pitcher who has different colored eyes. With +550 odds, keep an eye on the team from the Big Apple.
The Atlanta Braves are hot, and the Mets are not, but the division belongs to New York. Atlanta is young, hungry and very talented with their 88-55 record. They have star rookies and veteran leadership. On top of that, the Braves just won it all last year. Their odds currently stand at +800 if the season were to end today.
Finally, we have the St. Louis Cardinals. If it were up to destiny, they would win it all. What better way to end the careers of Adam Wainwright, Yadier Molina and Albert Pujols than a World Series title? They currently sit with +2000 odds, but who cares? It is a fun storyline, and they have the second-best offense in the NL.
This is the year of the NL; they are top-heavy, but very deep as well. Look out for anybody in the NL to walk away with the title.
