Dodgers sign Trevor Bauer, a 30-year-old right-handed pitcher from North Hollywood, California. He attended Hart Highschool and then UCLA. At UCLA Bauer was one of the best pitchers in college baseball.
He won Pac 12 conference Pitcher of the Year and National Pitcher of the Year during his time there. Bauer was selected third overall in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft by the Arizona Diamond Backs.
Bauer was traded by the Diamond Backs fairly quickly and went on to play for the Cleveland Indians. He truly made a name for himself on the Indians.
In 2017 he finished the season with a 17-9 record and threw almost 6 innings to the New York Yankees without giving up a hit in the American League Divisional series. This was a record for the Cleveland Indians.
In 2018 he was named an all-star, ending the season with a 12-6 record and an ERA of 2.21. In 2019 he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in a three-team trade. He finished the 2019 season 11-13 and a 4.48 ERA.
In 2020 he showed how dominant a pitcher he is by battling for 7 ⅔ innings in an MLB record-setting game of 13 scoreless innings. Bauer won the NL Cy Young Award beating out Yu Darvish and Jacob DeGrom.
Throughout his career, Trevor Bauer has made a lot of people upset. Bauer said in a 2019 Sports Illustrated interview “ I’m good at two things in this world: throwing baseballs and pissing people off”.
Bauer’s first controversy came during the Indian’s postseason. He is a drone fanatic and while fixing one he sliced his finger and had to get 10 stitches.
He had to get pushed back from starting game 1 to starting game 3. In game 3 blood began dripping from his finger and he had to be taken out in the first inning.
Another issue came up with the Indians when Bauer decided to disrespect baseball and his own manager. He was frustrated for giving up a two-run single and as his manager Terry Francona was walking to the mound Bauer chucked the baseball over the center-field fence.
You could visibly see the anger on Francona’s face and Bauer later issued an apology for his actions. Bauer has also taken to Twitter in the past having arguments with haters and naysayers.
Just a few days ago Trevor Bauer became the highest-paid player in the Major leagues after signing a deal with the LA Dodgers for $102 million for 3 years. Bauer had the best ERA in 2020 keeping it at 1.73 and had 100 strikeouts with only 17 walks in 73 innings.
The Dodgers probably have the most elite pitching rotation in the league. They have Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, David Price, Jason Urias, Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, and now Trevor Bauer.
Last year the Dodgers had 6 pitchers for 5 rotation spots meaning at the start of the season one pitcher wouldn’t make the cut. This year two pitchers arent going to be in the rotation. As of right now Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin are going to be out.
This isn’t a bad thing for the Dodgers though. This gives the Dodgers the option to trade one of these high-caliber pitchers and address another area in need.
For example, 3rd base Justin Turner would be a good trade since he-suspiciously hasn’t yet resigned from the Dodgers.
It will be interesting to see how Bauer fits into the rotation with these other elite pitchers. Hopefully, we won’t see any antics out of him this season and he can grab himself another Cy Young Award.
