MLB The Show Announces New Cover Athlete

Star outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. is the cover athlete for MLB The Show 21. Lucky for Padres fans, MLB The Show does not have the track record of cursing its cover athletes like Madden NFL.

At the age of 22, Tatis is the youngest player ever selected to be on the cover of MLB The Show video game. Previous cover athletes include Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper, Miguel Cabrera, Javier Baez, and go way back to David Ortiz and Joe Mauer.

With names like those, it takes a special type of player to be on the cover of MLB The Show and Tatis Jr is that.

Who is Fernando Tatis Jr?

Tatis Jr is one of the most electrifying players in all of baseball and a focal point of Slam Diego as fans call them. As the leadoff batter for the Padres Tatis adds an instant spark to a very dangerous lineup. Although he has only been in the majors for two years the Dominican Republic native has a career .301 batting average, 39 home runs, 98 runs batted in, and 168 hits in just 143 games.

In 2020 Tatis Jr won a National League Silver Slugger award and was named to the All MLB 1st team. Tatis finished fourth in NL MVP voting behind Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and teammate Manny Machado.

Is MLB The Show on Playstation or Xbox

If you have not been following the MLB The Show series for very long you may not be familiar with San Diego Studios the developer of the series. Until now MLB The Show was a Sony exclusive game playable on only PlayStation consoles.

MLB The Show 21 is being released on both old gen and next-gen consoles the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. This is huge news for baseball fans on the Xbox side who have been without a baseball video game since MLB’s 2k series ended in 2013.

It is also interesting to see that developer San Diego studios chose the young phenom of the San Diego Padres to be the cover athlete. I don’t know about you, but I think it is a coincidence.

About MLB The Show

MLB The Show is the premier baseball video game that was launched in 2006. Since the beginning, The Show was ahead of their time with unbelievable graphics, better than most games.

Popular Modes

Aside from playing now and head to head using current MLB teams MLB The Show has much more to offer. Two of the most popular modes in MLB The Show are Diamond Dynasty and Road to the Show.

Diamond Dynasty

Diamond Dynasty offers players the opportunity to challenge both the computer and online opponents with basically an assembled fantasy team of both current and legendary players.

Diamond Dynasty does not require in-game purchases but offers players to purchase additional currency called stubs to buy players to upgrade their team or purchase packs.

Road to the Show

Road to the Show is an exclusive mode that allows players to virtually chase their MLB dream creating their player and building him up from being a low ball player to an MLB Hall of Famer. Although it takes time, Road to the Show allows you to develop your player along the way and provides a realistic single-player experience when playing the game.

MLB The Show is scheduled to release on April, 20 launching the standard edition for $69.99 on next-gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S) and $59.99 for the PS4 and Xbox One.
