JOEY GALLO TRADE RUMORS | A Closer Look

Baseball, MLB article at Knup Sports

Let’s take a closer look at the most recent Joey Gallo trade rumors that have been surfacing over the last couple of days.

The Texas Rangers star made his second All-Star game appearance for the American League and participated in the Home Run Derby. Gallo has been a fan favorite since joining the squad and could be on his way out with rumors swirling around. Other than his fellow Vegas counterpart Kris Bryant, Gallo will be one of the most sought out top sluggers before the July 30th trade deadline.

Joey Gallo Trade Rumors

The San Diego Padres organization stated that the team will go after rentals that can make a difference for their playoff push, and hopes to bring the franchise’s first-ever World Series victory. The Padres currently hold two National League Pennants and five NL West Division Titles. A big move will be needed as the San Francisco Giants hold the best record in all of baseball, and the Los Angeles Dodgers will also be on the market for rentals.

So why are the Padres interested in Gallo’s services? For starters, he may not hit for average but he has hit 24 home runs that is a problem to opposing pitchers. On top of that, he leads the majors with 72 walks this season. His 402 on-base percentage would be a career-high for a full season.

Also, the general manager A.J. Preller of the Padres was with the Texas Rangers organization when Gallo was drafted. He has been one of the club’s bright spots on a team that is currently sitting in the last place in the AL Central with a 35-55 record.

Every other team in that division is at least one game above .500 with the Los Angeles Angeles at 45-44. The Rangers could certainly use some of the Padres’ assets in regards to the number of talented prospects they have to quicken the rebuild as the Padres have one of the strongest farm systems in baseball.

The Padres could use another power hitter in the lineup as Fernando Tatis Jr. has 28 home runs on the season, and Manny Machado is second on the team with just 15 home runs. However, the Padres aren’t the only team that is keeping tabs on him.

ANOTHER CONTENDER INTERESTED IN GALLO RIGHT NOW

Gallo should get more interest from American League due to the Designated Hitter slot on most nights. However, Gallo has a Gold Glove on his resume and could help on the field as well. The New York Yankees also have expressed interest in Gallo’s services as they may need more help than the Padres.

The New York Yankees have dealt with a lot of injuries this season while holding down fourth place in the American League East. The Yankees could use his offensive abilities as the team entered the All-Star Break ranked 23rd in runs scored after finishing top 5 in each of the last four seasons.

The left-handed batter would also balance out the lineup which is led by right-handers such as Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez, and DJ LeMahieu. With the short porch near right field in Yankee stadium, this would be a match made in heaven for both sides.

The Yankees may have a difficult time catching the Red Sox who have a commanding 8 game lead over them entering the second half of the season. However, catching the Oakland Athletics for the second Wildcard spot does not seem far-fetched being just 4.5 games out.

Would Gallo be a better fit for the San Diego Padres or New York Yankees or will there be a dark horse who puts together an even better trade package?
