Let’s Give Ricketts One More Shot

Baseball, MLB article at Knup Sports

The Cubs have some money to spend this offseason. It’s time for Cubs fans to “Trust the Process” again and see how this thing plays out.

While the 2021 MLB Postseason is still going on, most teams are already making plans and preparations for the upcoming 2022 season. That is the case in Chicago, and this might be one of the most important offseasons of the past 10 years.

The Cubs have a new GM in charge, and that will take some pressure off of Jed Hoyer. The most pressure still falls on owner Tom Ricketts, and he recently sent an e-mail out to Cubs fans.

In his note, Ricketts said,

“Jed and the team are now focused on reloading our roster. We have the resources necessary to compete in 2022 and beyond, and we will use them.”

Those are some big words from Ricketts and it sounds like a guarantee that the Cubs will be spending big this Winter. It is understandable that some Cubs fans are still hesitant to believe that promise, but I think trusting what Ricketts says is the right way to go.

Ricketts is a Cubs fan, and he has lived and died with the team over the past decade. Regardless of what many fans think, there is no way that he enjoyed watching what took place in the final two months of the 2021 season.

The Ricketts family has already poured millions of dollars into the Cubs, and it sounds like they are ready to do it again. This doesn’t mean that the Cubs will have the highest payroll in baseball, but look for Ricketts to open up his checkbook this Winter.

Hoyer, Ricketts Deserve Our Trust

It’s okay to be angry at Hoyer for trading away some of the most beloved players in Cubs history in July, but it was a move that had to be done. The Cubs weren’t going to win a World Series, and it was time to head in a different direction.

Hoyer and Ricketts have been a major part of the best run in the history of the Chicago Cubs, and that shouldn’t be forgotten. These two men, along with Theo Epstein, were able to deliver a title once, and they should be trusted to do it again.

Some Potential Free Agent Targets

There is no doubt that the Cubs have a long list of needs for the 2022 season and beyond, and they won’t be able to check off every box. Other teams will also be trying to get some of the top players in free agency, and the Cubs will have to be smart about who they go after.

When it comes to position players, Carlos Correa and Nick Castellanos should be at the top of the list. Castellanos is already a fan-favorite in Chicago and Correa is one of the most clutch players in our game today.

Marcus Stroman should be at the top of the list when it comes to starting pitchers, but the Cubs have to commit to getting someone.
